DM800 Replacement

I am looking to replace my DM800 and looking for suggestions. I need(want) to have a box running enigma2 so I can transfer my motor settings from the DM. I would also like to have an option to use an internal HDD or USB power external disk (would prefer not to have to power the external disk externally!).

I am not too concerned with more than one tuner but stability is paramount. The DM800 has been a nightmare for me over the last year (I have 3 of them and they're all as bad as each other).

Anyway, I am thinking of either:

    VU+ Solo
    Qbox HD
    TM 5402
    Spiderbox
    Azbox

Does anyone have a recommendation? Any "don't go near that" stories!

The TM 5402 has a Cccam client but not a server. I own a DM800 and a TM 5402 and am very satisfied with them but if I was starting out I would go for a Vu+ Duo.

    Vu+ solo or duo!...

    Won't be disappointed!

Has everything and brilliant support m8!

Clarke-tech ET9000 better value than the VU DUO .. :D

I don't have one my self but I have read an awful lot of praise for the vu range- single and duo across a number of different forums.

My mate got a Usb laptop cooling fan and put it under his Dm800 and its been rock solid since. It was crashing all the time beforehand. Might be worth a try before forking out for a new box.

Dm800 is far too small in my opinion, nowhere for the heat to go and thats even before you put the 2.5 inch hard drive in.

A legit i.e non clone DM500HD.. won't support an internally mounted HDD but will do an e-sata interface to a HDD enclosure. Also being the genuine thing, it won't be as unreliable as a clone. About €300 new.

I have usb laptop fans on them all and they are still giving me a nightmare. I have tried everything - it's time to retire them.

I see Enigma2 is really, really close (since Sky were forced to release the open source code they are using) to running on the Sky HD box. I have 2 of them I don't use. I think I will hold out and use them when a decent image comes out.

Well that would resolve a lot of the "other channels" nonsense that Irish Sky subscribers have to put up with.

Could you post a link please?

Sure, you will need to login. Follow the thread through and you'll see they have been going on for a while but since the source code release it looks really close.

Very interesting. Had seen something on it a while back, but thought it would never get off the ground. Reading through the tektesters board, they seem to be making real progress.

Sky HD box would make for a cheap twin tuner PVR - effectively subsidised by Sky subscribers! Though Jtagging and all that jazz wouldn't be for the faint hearted.
