Anybody know what's happened to this outfit?

Their website here: http://www.heritagerailway.ie/ seems defunct despite lots of members who still persist in using the web address in their post signatures on IRN and elsewhere. Yet another load of hot air bites the dust?

Rather scurrilous remark that, aimed directly at a person.....

Loosely translated what you are really saying though is-
"Owing to the fact that I'm a pariah in "enthusiast" circles and you people don't let me play with you I have the hump so I'm going to call you names."

Off you go and pull your levers and talk to yourself through your multiple internet forum identities like a good chap......

Save the rail and heritage railway have engaged the exact same premice that due to the very delicate negotiations they are involved in they are unable to provide any facts to back up their statements. You might like this kind of waffle but i preffer to challenge it.

I'm intrigued, how do you know so much about Top Notch and his other identities? I'm not topnotch by the way. That aside, some of those involved with Heritage Rail are fairly good at character assassination themselves but not the Longford man!

I'm also intrigued so come on out with it.

I'm not surprised at them not being able to divulge information - common enough in any business dealings. I don't really see the need to have digs at them either - neither Save the Rail or Heritage Railway are asking for money from the public so I don't really see how they are accountable to any of us. I'm not betting money on either being successful but they're not harming anyone so let them try if they want - better than whinging on the internet anyway.

It's hard to divulge information when you're not making progress and bluffing and the penny finally drops. Of course people will tell you they'll use the railway when you come knocking, there only trying to get rid of you as fast as they can.
The only thing they will achieve is to make it more difficult for any realistic projects seeking funding. Who's on the phone at the door. O not another one of these crackpot railway groups eek. Phase 1 of the WRC is barely sustainable but lets lobby for stage six.

But what has the heritage group got to do with the WRC? I agree there are some ridiculous campaigns out there (like building a railway to Donegal!) but the heritage group if anything seems to be underselling itself, it hasn't made any commitment to any particular route, length, location etc. Even if they don't achieve much atleast they will have tried.

Agree. Plus they haven't wasted anyone else's money. In fact, they put their own money where there mouths are.

I'd say now their main expenditure was on alcohol in fairness. If they didn't meet in the Oslo bar they could have cut their running costs by 95%.:D

Regardless there seems to the a real drink culture with the scene. If you look at many of the photos they are hanging out of train windows half pissed with a pint glass in their hands. A lot of the ones coming from the mainland seem to have this idea that once in "southern Eire" they can go on the lash.

From what I understand of the United Kingdom nobody really needs to come from there to here to "go on the lash."

JD,you are an excellent poster,I know you from old and while people (me included!) may not always agree with you you definitely aren't inclined to have multiple personality disorder.

Old tea boy/latterly lever puller is a different kettle of fish though who only wants to run people and their efforts down. His previous "identity" crises, well where could I start..... But enough of that.
