Paypal rant

A quick rant about PP fees.

I use a top up CC (3V) for online purchases and when I have only a few quid
left on it I usually send it to my brothers PP account.

I had €1:00 left on 2 top ups each so I sent the cash to the brother and
Paypal took 38cents from each transaction.
I mean come on thats robbery:mad:

Mods if this is not the appropriate forum please move.

If you've done it before, then you surely knew what the fees were?

    Standard is 3.4% + 35c.

3V will take a minimum of €2.50 to transfer cash . - Be happy that you lost € 0.38 only .

Bank of Ireland charge € 0.44 per credit transfer .

    Simple solution: don't use paypal

Better solution; get a decent pre-pay credit card and ditch 3V. Moneybookers, O2, etc can be topped up where as 3V cannot.

Paypal are tricksters. I just bought from ebay and when confirming the transaction I had to pay 2.57 euro from paypal account and rest from credit card (o2 money card) linked to paypal. Purchase was 19.99 total. For some reason Paypal wanted to take the payment from credit card as Sterling instead of Euro. I didn't notice at first but because I had the cost down to the cent it declined the transaction. Took me a sec to figure out to change the currency that was being taken from the card. Difference in the cost was about 1.50. Sickens me when a big operation like Paypal try to weasel and extra 1.50 off people by charging unnecessary conversion fees.

I know where OP is coming from. When all you have is a couple of euro and they dip their greedy beaks into it it angers up the blood some.

Paypal doesn't set any currencies on transactions. The buyer sets their own native currency, and the seller sets theirs. In your case, one of you has a currency set differently to the other, hence the exchange.

My paypal currency was set to Euro as was the sellers. Currency taken from my paypal account was in euro but the currency they tried to take from the card was sterling. Why would they take from the card in sterling when my account is set to euro, the money in my account is euro, its the paypal.ie website and the transaction is in euro ? First thing I did when I set up my paypal account was select euro as my account currency. Never ran into this problem before because I have never had insufficient funds in the account and had to draw from CC to complete purchase. Looks like trickery to me to weasel another couple euro out of me by charging for unnecessary conversion.

Looks like jumping to conclusions to me. I'm sure that 2 euro means everything to a multi-million dollar company like Paypal.

Have you even asked Paypal what happened? Or looked at the transaction detail to see where the exchange was occurring? Paypal will charge you in your own currency, doing the exchange at their own rate, unless you specify otherwise, then they charge in the seller's requested currency.

Just because you seen a price in euro, doesn't necessarily mean the payment was going to be in euro too. It depends on how the seller specified their sale.

This could also be a mistake. So don't go jumping to false conclusions before you've even tried to find out what has happened.

What are you Paypals official spokesman ? Seeing as millions of people use Paypal I'd imagine that 2 Euro would quickly become alot more if this happened to other people so yeah I'd say that 2 Euro would interest that million euro business a hell of alot.

Perhaps you shouldnt jump to conclusions seeing as you know very little of what has happened with my transaction. If you want to offer a suggestion that I contact Payapl to discuss the matter ( which I have and am awaiting a reply ) then do so but leave the arrogance and ignorance out of it. Your little know it all, better than everyone act isnt impressing anyone.

Yet you're the only one complaining about this happening, and in hundreds of Paypal transactions, in both euro and other currencies, it's never happened to me, and none of the other posters on this board have ever mentioned it happening to them either. So yes, you are jumping to wild conclusions, and making potentially very dangerous allegations about Paypal. Allegations which you are making this site legally responsible for, so watch what you say.

It seems you know nothing of it yourself either, since you haven't waited for a response before you called Paypal tricksters, greedy and weasels. You have no idea why this has happened, but immediately conclude that it is a deliberate ploy by Paypal to extort money from their customers. That is a powerful statement, and one you should not make lightly.

Skunkle - It looks to me from reading your post that the 1.50 is not a conversion fee , but indeed the exchange rate difference .

Paypal fees are defined and very fixed , and I believe you wrong and unjustified in your assumptions .

This forum is very useful in explaing the process in ' online buying and auctions '

A rant is more suitable in a different forum like ' after hours ' - however , I believe Paypal do not deserve this type of unjustified criticism .

Ok lets sort this out. I dont want to make any enemies lol.

Yes what I said was unjustified and I shouldnt have accused paypal of "trickery" or beings "weasels" lol. Just one of them days and I didnt quite understand the transaction. Still dont to be honest but the rage has abated.
I'll try not to use the forum to vent my frustration in future. Paypal is ok for now but I'll be watchin em.

Paypal are now owned by Ebay right?
For that reason, I certainly will not be using them in future.
Not after discovering the commission rates Ebay charge these days. Daylight robbery.
