I was trying to do some essay work in the arts block on friday, the tables are too low for any academic work, but the couches are nice to lounge on. Better tables would've been nice but at least the crappy old chairs are gone! :D

That loud arts block social area really isn't somewhere intended for academic work anyway I don't think.

Works great for me. Feels like a train station, I can block out the noise when there's enough of it. The problem is in places like the library but more so the reading room... when a place is supposed to be quiet, noise becomes much more disturbing. Well, for me anyway. Hopefully these new chairs won't cause spinal damage.

I'm usually like this too, although occasionally something incredibly annoying slips through the filter. A few days ago there was a girl in the arts block who was telling an anecdote so boring, that having to listen to it was only marginally preferable to massaging my ears with a cheese grater .
