    Hi

Im just wondering if its time i went to the doc to check everything is functioning ok? Ive been TTC 2 years this october. I was on the pill for a couple of years and my period only getting back to normal the last couple of months,i went 3 months without one at one stage. I think maybe i need to do the deed abit more sometimes might only be once a week, i ready somewhere that if your trying should be doing it at least 3 times a week. any advice would be much appreciated.

No harm in going to the doctor even just for a general health check/smear test/etc... And bring up your concerns with your GP.

I'd recommend starting to chart too. At least then if you are referred to a fertility specialist you can give them lots of information about you and your cycle and they will know the best course of action for you.

Detectiv Foxtrot is the best person to give you advice on charting but she's away at the minute. I'm sure other on here will be able to advse too

Agree with CCL, Detectiv Foxtrot gives excellent advice on charting & when exactly you need to try.

If you were doing the deed once a week rather than specifically around the time you're ovulating; then chances are you may just have been unlucky & missed your ovulation time.

In a 28 day cycle, you ovulate normally day 12-14, so you need to be trying then specifically.
It can vary according to how long your cycle is though, as if you have a longer cycle; then you may be ovulating later in the month.
You can keep an eye on when you're ovulating, as your vaginal discharge will normally be stretchy and clear (similar to egg white).

If you're unsure, you could buy ovulation tests (you pee on them & it tells you if you're ovulating or not) so you'll know exactly when to 'do the deed' :)

It would definitely be no harm speaking to your gp regarding your missing periods.
It might be something simple, but its no harm having these things checked out all the same.
I've skipped them once or twice before, so my gp sent me for a scan to make sure all was looking well in there.

    Best of luck :)

thanks for the reply's , i was at the doctor in march for spear/ check up, was going to mention about the ttc but i just chickened out i guess. Its like im afraid there might be a problem, and cant really deal with that right now. My period is more a less back on track seems my cycle is quiet long sometimes 33-34 days. Ive been keeping an eye on vaginal discharge, and stuff like that. I might give it till october and if no joy then il got to the doctors and that would be two years.thanks for the advice

Hi Applesock......this might help with charting & show you the optimal time to conceive......

    http://www.clearblue.com/uk/cycle-calendar.php

I came across this & downloaded it last night, seems pretty handy :)

It is pretty daunting the thoughts of discussing ttc with your gp for fear of there being a problem. Hopefully you will have conceived by October & wont need to go to your GP :)

to be honest if you are trying for 2 years I would go straight to the Dr and tell her that because if you wait any longer you will kick yourself if you need to go for further tests. Depending on your age of course and if you have the time but all these tests take time.

I would encourage anyone to go for the tests rather than waiting around for a long time.

Yeah, I totally agree with Maryk. What if you nothing happens between now and October and you then have tests that discover that there is something wrong (odds are that there isn't of course) and whatever it is takes ages to address? Think of the time you'd have wasted. I don't know what your age is, but that might be an important factor.

You should just go, maybe have an ovulation/egg reserve test done and once you know everything is fine you'll feel a whole lot better. Your GP will have heard it a thousand times before, there is nothing to feel worried about. They say you should go after you've been trying for a year, so it's not like you're going to be turned away or told you're being silly or anything.

    Best of luck :)

I must say Id agree with the others and say dont wait until October, go in the next few weeks. What better time to get sorted than in the bright sunny days of Summer ;)

I dont know your age but Id still say why wait? I ended up needing the MMR vaccine before trying to conceive after a miscarraige and it meant 3 months of just waiting. Not nice I can tell you when all you want to be is Pregnant

    Best of Luck!

    hey

thanks for all your replies. Maybe i should just go to the doctor and explain whats being going on and see what they say. i certainly didnt think it would take this long to get pregnant, at first i though maybe it was just the after effects of the pill. I'l be turning 30 this summer, so better now than later i guess given my age. also caprilicious thanks for the link.

Just one thing to add - if your cycle is 33-34 days the chances are you are ovulating a bit later - maybe day 17-19 (about 15 days before you get your period). But, as the others have said the OPK sticks would give you a good indication of when to "do the deed". Anyway, I don't think there would be any harm saying it to the doc either.
And don't worry - at 30 years old you still have a lot of time on your side.
    Best of luck. :)
