Hi, On the terms of receiving German TV, a German friend of mine bought a satelitte receiver for €300 (all costs included including installing and no monthly bills). I have checked it out and it is brillian, loads of good channels and I am very much thinking of getting this. DW-TV is crap on the internet. Does anybody know of this and secondly if I got it installed will it interfere with my Sky box? That would be my only worry. Cheers

It's not just a receiver you need, it's a dish as well. The Sky dish will be pointing at 28.2/28.5E, the German channels are mainly on 19E. A Sky dish wouldn't be suitable for picking up both areas, but a slightly larger dish with two lnbs fitted could easily do so, without affecting your Sky box.

What you'll need is an 80cm satellite dish with an lnb and any fta satellite receiver as long as your not long for hd. If you want hd it will be more expensive. Have a look at ebay for these items.

all the German channels are transmitted on Astra 1 at 19 degrees east, a simple bog standard free to air digital receiver and 60cm dish, you can sometimes see cheap offers on complete kits (receiver and dish) at the likes of Lidl e.t.c. . I think currently band q have a good deal on, or you can find good deals on e-bay.

DW-TV is broadcast on a different satellite, hotbird at 13 degrees east, there are German channels here too but only about 5, Astra is the one for free German TV.

If you wanted both satellites, you would need a 80cm dish and what's called a "monoblock",

as for installation, it all depends how good you are at DIY, it can be done.

The price of FTA HD boxes are coming down all the time. For a little extra get a technomate TM 5402 or better still a HTPC with a couple of twin satellite and terrestrial tuner cards. Sticking to SD only is a false economy at this stage.
