Very common scam at the moment. It's definitely a scam. Any call of that nature is a scam.

I haven't had it happen to me but you definitely did the right thing. I can' think of any reason why you should receive such calls.

Although just be aware that Dell does operate call centres from India so if you should have a problem, and you call for help, don't be surprised if you're talking to somebody in Mumbai.

I had a problem with a Dell Laptop and called about it; I found it tough to understand the person I was talking to as her accent was thick as tar but she knew her stuff inside out and back to front. They can actually take control of your computer remotely to run various diagnostics etc. It's quite odd to see your computer being operated by someone in India.

Im aware of that i always found them to be helpfull. The poor man when i mentioned dealing with Dell he kept blabbering on about extra costs blaa blaa. That thing where they take control of your computer is the Dell connect session only a trained Dell technician will get to access my pc.

To be honest I really have no idea how people think there is even the slightest chance that something like that could be for real

I don't know who is the bigger idiot...the scammer or the people who fall for it

Friend of mine works for a company that uses an Indian call centre for customers of theirs. He got a file across his desk having been forwarded from the call center, the file pertained to a

    Mr Goodluck an fcukya

    Address
    I'm off to Australia
    Never to be seen again

He never did recover the debt.

My only real experience of them is when I was having trouble with dell (hauuk spit) after many many many attempts of trying to get through to complaints I eventually got an English gentlemen on the line. It was only after I had ranted for a good minute or two that he eventually managed to say "hang on mate I'm the one ringing with the complaint" fu*king dell managed to connect two complaining callers.

I had this once, it's a scam alright. I went the whole way with him (for about half an hour), explained everything to me and gave me a site to pay to and then I said no. :D

Tell him that you couldnt have given him your number and that it must be his computer that has a virus. Take his credit card details and tell him to change his proxy settings on his internet service providings. He will thank you.
