Just after getting a blackstar ht-1rh in a trade, but I've no cab for the next while.

Can I use the emulated headphone out without a cab? I know with the majority of tube amps you have to hook them up to a cab to take the load.

    Anybody know how it works?

I dont know if you got the manual as you got the amp in a trade so here:
    http://www.blackstaramps.co.uk/pdf/handbooks/ht-1%20handbook%2003-08-10.pdf
Apparently it shuts out the speaker out jack when the headphone outputs engaged. I would imagine it should work fine without a cab as you were saying. Oh and when you do get it hooked up with a cab, let us know what you think! Im a ht-40 user but was looking at one of those ht-1's for when im in college
EDIT: Im just thinking now about the load that is normally displaced by the amp in normal use, if theres nothing to absorb the load while using headphones it might not be great for the amp. Unless theyve designed it in such a way that it can be used like this, the amps based on the design of the ht pedals so maybe its different? Try emailing Blackstar themselves:http://www.blackstaramps.co.uk/resources/

Tried it out earlier and it was perfect, I think it's because technically it's a preamp-esque tube in the power section it's okay? (12au7)

It sounds amazing through the emulated output, better than the Jet City 20 watt, Peavey Classic 30 and ENGL Thunder 50 that I had, it's a little monster.

I'm gonna get a 2x12 or a 4x12 soon so I can crank it up, but for now it's just for recording and running straight into the PA

I've played one through a Blackstar 212 cab, the sound was incredible. I think the Blackstar 212 cab is about 250 quid or so.
