Hi, can you please maybe try and get a link for this. I know you mentioned a source, but a link for posters would be appreciated.

just having a look at that link sounds like its a bit of a buffer fight to keep the home fans happy

surprised to see fitzy getting a top 15 rating from the wba though

Thats what happens with you buy their version of the "European" title, sorry I meant that what happens when you pay them sanctioning fees for a title that the boxing community would rather was boycotted.

So true, calling out Fitzgerald is taking the piss imo.

Fair enough if it's only a tune-up but he needs to start fighting some real competition after Vera.

    Wasnt McEwan "real competition"??

HBO dont want him again until August, so what do you do until then?

Many fighters would sit on their arse and do nowt. We constantly criticise fighters for the lack of fights they have and compare them to the likes of Sugar Ray Robininson and say "they used you fight at least every month".

They didnt used to quality quality in every fight, the level used to be up and down.

Lee needs two fillers, he wants Fitzer to be one of them. I see no issues. If it was Lee's only fight of the year then there would be an issue.

As I said, if it is only a tune up fight that is fair enough.

McEwain was competitive but Andy got out of jail, he needs to consistently fight tougher and better fighters to improve imo. Since 2008/2009 we have heard world title aspirations from Manny and Andy, but one look at his record and it is clear he hasn't done anything significant in the division.

    well said Slap

also it goes to show what a bit of talk can do- he might be getting stick but fitzy has got the big fight he wanted.

McEwan shouldn't have been competitive though... if Andy has world title aspirations, fights like that shouldn't be so close. Fitzy is domestic/european level at the moment. If Andy wants or requires a tune up fight, the very least he could do is fight a relatively known name in America, where he should be pushing himself right now.

Come on, McEwan is no world champ but it was always going to be competative, especially in comparsion to the other guys Lee has been fighting and a lot of people tipped McEwan to win.

But Vera is a "a relatively known name in America" so I think that Fitzer would be a perfectly acceptable filler for Andy to smash

I'd see it as Vera should be his next fight and a jump up in class is required after that. Despite his loss to Vera, you would expect him to beat him this time around, if he can't do that then that's probably his shot blown and would put to bed any thoughts of a legitimate world title fight.

It's not that I don't think Fitzy is any good, he's pretty handy but he's not someone Andy should be looking to fight right now, it feels like a step back. Andy should be focusing on fights in America.

Vera won't be a push over- he looked decent when defeating sergio Mora, who i thought beat Shane Mosely

As someone who has been critical of Andy Lee on what feels like a weekly basis, I'm happy with this, he's keeping active, this guy is relatively experienced and he still has plans for fights in June/July.

yeah good to see him active i really hate big gaps between fights for any boxer cant be good imo with the exception of course of injuries and the like.

btw anyone know if that hyland fight is on the box?

never mind about calling out Fitzgerald, he has bigger fish to fry if he overcomes Alex Bunema. I'd like to see him avenge his defeat to Vera then hopefully have a crack at a world title later on in the year.

Agreed a think Fitzy is a step back at this stage, Vera is hardly world class either, he should be looking to avenge that asap, and then move onwards and upwards.

i think a lot of the lads based in america feel they have to come home and have a fight in their own country to keep the home fans happy the odd time.
