I have a question currently in Limerick we have a issue with a city centre street being redone and the road works have begun to seriously effect the local shops on the street, my question is this when these construction workers were asked if they could do the work at night or on sundays they said it was not possible but why???

in the USA and European countries you see road works being done at night all the time, why is it such a problem here??

I dont know if this is the right forum but cheers for any responses, I might post this in the Limerick forum aswell if Incase I get told to do so.

A huge issue throughout the country lcrcboy,

Those who remember Dublin's O Connell St refurbishment will be only too aware of the project crawling along as during the long summer days the various operatives worked strictly to an Office Hours Only roster...

It's little wonder this country finds it so difficult to get stuff done.....:)

I suspect the answer for you, lies in somebody living within a 5km radius of the works who might have their sleep patterns disturbed.....?

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

I've seen plenty of overnight works in Dublin in the past, I'd say it's more likely NIMBY objectors rather than pay issues stopping it being more widely spread

I'd normally be the first person to shout 'NIMBY', but you can't say it's unreasonable to prohibit night work in a residential area.

Saying that, I have no problem with particularly urgent work being carried out from 8am – 10pm any day of the week.
