    HI

I have a standard sized immersion tank (about waist height) and it is about 5 years old with green foam insulation.

How long should such a tank keep hot water hot for?
Is there any benefit in adding extra lagging to such a tank in anyones experience?

    Thanks
    Redman

i imagine a lot of people looking in are thinking "how long is a pce of string" It would depend on what temp the water was heated to and if any is being drawn off etc. Its not normally a question that is asked.

However if you are asking i imagine you might be living by yourself and are trying to conserve heating water in the summer(the reason i am thinking summer is the winter its heated automatically with the heating)

Maybe you could look at an undercounter electric water heater which will heat enough for you to wash etc, Your washing machine will heat water so you wont need it for this then all you will need to do is ensure you have a pumped electric shower.

If however your house is heated on gas then most of the charge is made up of a standing a standing charge and even a little standing charge is built into the unit charge.

As for lagging you can lag the cylinder more however it is lagged to the required specification although a lagging jacket over it might yield more in preventing heat loss.

Perhaps you can tell us more about your reasons for asking.

    Hi

Simply been meaning the question for ages and basically if I have the immersion on for lets say 1 hour on timer , I will get really nice hot water for a shower within the hour or so, but if I wait 3 or so hours after the timer going off, the water seems to be just warm. I thought such a tank should be able to keep the hot water hot for alot longer...or I could simply be dreaming!

    Thanks for the reply

Nah whats wrong is only the top of your tank is warm. You want a full tank of hot water but you will need to leave the immersion on a lot longer.

Why not use a pumped electric shower...Water on demand.

also immersion should have a sink/bath switch , make sure its flipped to bath if you need more hot water.
