Okay, so I'm almost at the end of my first year of college while in receipt of BTEA. I had to pay my fees this year due to the maintenance grant paying for fees in the first year of a course I dropped out of a while back.
Anyway, I've read on a few websites that I am NOT entitled to the maintenance section of the grant while on BTEA, but I AM entitled to have my fees paid (€1500) if I apply and get approved, without it affecting my BTEA payment. Is this true? I havn't read it wrong? This is incredibly urgent, as I was completely under the impression that I wasn't entitled to squat on BTEA.
I know if I applied for the grant, I would be approved - that's not an issue.

But could I seriously get my fees paid by the Grant and keep my BTEA?

    YES!

Registration fees for the coming year are 2,000 euro, and yes the grant office will pay this if you qualify. This payment is separate to the maintenance grant. They used to pay BTEA and the maintenance grant, but stopped that a year or two ago. In some cases the social welfare will also give a once off payment (approx 400 euro) towards costs incurred in returning to college each year (for books etc). On case by case basis... Best of Luck!

This is probably the best news I have heard yet! Was told my fees were going to be two-grand next year, and I almost died! I'm fully entitled to the maintenance grant this year, but I'd prefer to stay on BTEA. Absolute utter relief to think I can sort out the fees and stay with my weekly income!

    Thanks!!
