I heard of a fourball lately in an InterClub match which went apparantly to the 27th:eek::eek::eek: before proceedings closed. Is this a record?

I've heard of a match going to the 27th before. Years ago in some under 18's match. Forget where now.

I went to the 24th in a singles match play in recent years. The course was being re-developed so we only had 8 holes available, so ended up playing the 8 holes three times!

Not exactly sudden death in the true sense but had a 4 ball match play in Roganstown a few years ago, we were never ahead in the match and halved it on the 18th, it was too dark to continue so we said we wuld come back. Rather than go to the course for what could have been just one hole we decided to play it over 18, again we were never ahead in the match but were lucky enough to win it on the 18th.

One of the most enjoyable game(s) of golf I have ever had. Competitive as hell but played in a great spirit. I just love matchplay.

Hmm Im not sure how legal that is. There was nothing to stop you playing the match as sudden death and then continuing the remaining holes in a friendly manner...?

Legal ??? what a strange choice of a word. Of course we could have played one hole of sudden death but as the 1st game was so enjoyable, competitive and close we all aggreed that it would be worth playing the 18 again.

I will always remember the next round, we went out to a pair of brothers, one off 12 and the other off 11. The 11 had just joined the club after a year off from his old club, where his old handicap was 4, funny thing is that he was quite up front about it and saw no problem in it.

Jaysus, that's not right re his old handicap was 4, new one off 11. I'd love to know how the 11 handicap was arrived at. It could reflect very poorly on the handicap secretary and/or the club unless it was the result of returning three cards, and even then you would think they would err on the side of caution, and give a lower hcap than the three rounds suggest, on the assumption that once the cobwebs were blown away the hcap would tumble. An ex 4 hcap player off 11 would be very handy for interclub competitions!

Was the original match a friendly fourball or was it an actual match organised by the club...........ie was it a match in the club fourball??

In an official match you can't just decide to come back and play 18 holes. You must play sudden death. If it was an official match then I'm guessing both teams should have been disqualified for deciding to play a second 18.
You can't just make up rules.

Of course if it was just a friendly 4 ball then you can do what you like.

Went to the 26th in a club match play last year.

Should have been well beaten by the 16th but managed to get through:)

No it was a club match play, second round i think. Of course if there was light we would have finsihed it there and then but we decided that if we were all gonna finish work early and drive an hour each to get there, there was no point in doing that for what could have been a one hole play off.

    "no point" ?
Other than playing by the rules of the game I guess. Unless the club has no defined process in which case you can agree how to decide it.
In this case it seems obvious that the usual process is sudden death, which you both ignored and thus should both be DQ'ed as per the rules.
