I see Tesco in Ireland are now selling Freeview HD boxes. When did that happen ?

At €87 euro they won't be running out the door.

Which model(s) , there are 3 different ones. If they 'behave' for Saorview I'd like to hear it.

They will be useful along the border and east coast for saorview + Freeview HD overspill however overpriced they may be futher west and south where they will never behave as well as a Walker or Finlux would at the same price!

They are also likely to dump them at €39.99 on occasion :)

    £30 in the UK= €87 here
    Some farce.
No wonder they have their highest worldwide profit margin in Ireland

I've not seen Freeview HD boxes for anything like £30 in the UK. £70 is the cheapest I've seen, which is about €80.

Do those boxes have a decent tuner (RF wise) - I real elsewhere of the Technika TV tuners being poor and more likely to be troublesome (than other TVs) in the vicinity of TETRA transmitters etc.

I saw the newest Technika model with DIS in the model number for sale in Tesco Douglas and Mahon Point this week.

These sell for 70 stg up north right now (only the older models sell for 30stg). So for once there is no rip off down here.

No great reason to buy one for 87 euro if you are outside of freeview range.

Saw a Freeview HD box in Chester yesterday for £99.95 in one of the major UK retailers, was expecting to find one for a lot less than that.

Yea, saw those boxes in Tesco, Belfast (Newtownbreda) for £30 (down from £70) Not bad as a Saorview/ Freeview HD box. I wonder when official Saorview boxes will hit that price!!

Well you had better check again, because my mate just wired up his parents for Saorview using one of those €55 Maplins boxes.
It is a Yamada MPEG2/MPEG4HD box.

It will provide pictures, sound, and teletext. However, it may have trouble with summertime and channel numbers. [...and a few surprises into the future]

Spot on! It does have problems with summertime and channel numbers. No apparent fix for either. Works okay otherwise. ASDA selling them for £42.
