sky and freesat question

I've signed up for sky + and got the multiroom option with a regular HD box.

Since I cant record with it I was thinking of cancelling the multiroom when after it got installed.( I cant see much point in a HD box without a HD package!)

That way I figure all the wiring will be in place for me to look at FTA for the other room.

Is there a freesat box that would let me record/pause and get the FTA channels including the Irish ones?
Can I get all this without having to get an indoor aerial for the irish channels?

If you get multiroom you have to keep it for 12 months, you can't cancel it just after getting it installed-it would be a breach of contract. At the moment there's not really a dedicated pvr that does all that you want as RTE is not available fta on satellite at the moment and when it is it will be on a different satellite from the one your other fta channels are broadcast on.
The thread that's linked to above discusses the options. But as I said,if you get multiroom you have it for a year. For most people one pvr is enough-how much stuff do you want to record?

You could get a quad, or even octo LNB (depending on how many multi room set ups you want). That way, you can use your multi room subscription to record (Sky don't charge you for the multi room record facility)

If you want Freesat + in the other rooms after your Sky contract expires, you'll still need either a quad or octo LNB on your dish. As far as I'm aware, only Technisat has a standard HD box that can record using an external hard drive:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Technisat-HDFS-Freesat-HD-Receiver/dp/B002DPVMXO/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1303596629&sr=1-1

and even then, because it has only one tuner you can't record one programme and watch another.

Most of the combo hd boxes will also record.
