It's time to go shopping for a new washing machine. This will be our third machine in 37 years. The first one was an AEG Lavamat, which lasted 21 years, and the second a Whirlpool, which miraculously lasted 16!!! I can't for the life of me explain the longevity of the Whirlpool; I'd expect probably 6 or 7 years at the best. Anyway, the poor little dear has reached end-of-life. I would be hoping to get another good 20 years from number 3, so I reckon Miele is the only way to go? My local supplier has one in the window (W3224) for eur 999.

I made my purchase today ... it should be delivered directly by Miele next week. I can't wait for my new German friend to arrive :)

I mentioned to the sales rep about our Whirlpool lasting 16 years, and he explained that back in those days, it would have been a Philips Whirlpool (he's right). Apparently, the standalone Whirlpool products today are of inferior quality.

Hmm, I wonder if you could obtain one from a machine lying in a Amenity Site or other such appliance recycling place - the 4505 was relatively common.
