PSU?

Hey all im going to buy a gaming PC soon and it has a Xigmatek 400W PSU, when I told my friend about it he stated it was crap and my PC will burn up, anyone else use this model or can they tell me will it burn up? it states it is good for handling gaming and home entertainment but its always safe to be sure.

Xigmatek are a respectable company but i would be worried by the low wattage of the psu
do you have a link to the pc you are thinking of getting?
I ask because a decent gaming rig would need a larger wattage psu as any half way decent graphics card would need more power and also probably more pci 6-pin connectors if it only has one

Xigmatek do some alright PSUs. Not my first in line though.

Why don't you pick out the components yourself? If you go with somewhere like hardwareversand, you should be able to get something similar/better with a good PSU. I can take a look tomorrow if you want. Is the linked system the one that you're thinking of? About €700?

I would change it around slightly, more like this:

€30 for shipping on top of that.

No need for 8GB of RAM if you can get an i5 instead, and the coolermaster case is a bit better. The i5 stock cooler is actually quite good as well, though for some more heavy OCing you would want a better one.

If its a gaming computer you are much better off with the i5 instead. Hyperthreading doesn't help games, and actually decreases the performance in some of them.

The 6870/6950/560 Ti is a better choice for gaming, especially if you have a 1080p monitor.

Also 8TB of ram :eek:

Which i7 processor did you choose? There's very little difference in performance between the i5-2500K and the i7-2600K. IIRC, a little more cache and hyperthreading. This translates to very little real world difference except for specific tasks. Of course it is better, but it's not worth the 30-40% addition to price. I wouldn't buy any other Intel mainstream desktop processor now other than these two (and only the 2600K with money to throw away).

Scan have a good selection of PSUs, and I would go with something like the one below, only £63.59 in today's deals.

You should note that the 2500K is £5 cheaper and the 2600K is £3 cheaper in the today only deals. These should be still there tomorrow (they don't change at the weekend) so you don't need to order today to avail.
The 2600K is nearly 50% increase on the 2500K. IMO, that money could be better spent on a graphics card.

Are you ordering from hardwareversand now?

1) That's a green drive - low power power and performance - get the HD103SJ
2) Is that a 460? It seems a bit expensive and there's 6870s for cheaper. Actually, there's 560s nearly as cheap
3) Get a better PSU, I'll pick you out another one if you confirm where you are shopping
4) That processor is incompatible with that motherboard
