ignition coil problem,

    Just walked out to my car and its not starting after a whole days driving,

    My car is a 1976 Lancia Fulvia

    It has ignition coil-distributor ignition....as far as I know, only had it three days,

    No spark at spark plugs,
    Distributor cap and rotor brand new,
    Cleaned all the contacts I could find from battery to coil
    The engine is turning over
    Plenty of fresh fuel,
    The guages aren't popping up when I turn the key like they did before,

    Would the guages be affected by the coil?
    My first thought was fuses but I can't find anything that looks like a fuses only relays

    The fuses might not be the modern blade type and are possibly the bullet type.

    Is there voltage at the low tension side of the coil? If there is, it's the coil that's fecked. No current at the low tension side of the coil means the problem is before the coil.

    I'm afraid it's time to break out the multi-meter, or in my case, a bulb and a length of wire and see where the current stops on he ignition circuit.

    Sweet I'll check the coil first thing,
    what type of bulb do you use (indicator/headlight) just wondering what can handle the voltage,

    Is there a spark at the points ? Some Fulvias have ballast resistor coils, so be careful when replacing them. Where are you located ?

    How would I test for spark at the point?
    I don't know what a ballast coil is but I'll hit up Wikipedia nd try find out,

    Take off the distributor cap. Put in gear (top), push car till points are open, you should see a spark. If there is none its the coil. A ballast resistor coil will have an extra 'lump' attached to it, connected by wiring. A standard coil will just have the plus/minus and h/t lead. Some early Fulvias with dynamos had these, but they carried on to some later versions.
    The Lancia Motor Club meet up in the Goat Inn (Dub), once a month. (1st Tuesday I think. There are a few members with Fulvias. I'm not a member, but know most of the cars and people involved.

    Ok thanks its not a ballast type, only + - and lead to HT leads,

    How would all this effect the gushes not coming up thought, is there a fuse or relay I should be looking at,

    Check the resistance across both the coil and condensor.

    Turns out it was a bloody fuse,
    Took me all morning to find the fuse box,
    I though from the beginning it was a fuse because
    the gauges were not popping up like they did before,
    at least it was a 50cent fix,

    Ok now I'm peeved,

    I attach the results of me trying to drive home with the car repeatedly blowing the ignition fuse, What in the hell could be doing this?

    Story so far goes -fuses blew à la my first post, -this was replaced and many miles of happy motoring ensued -drove up the mountains and it broke down for unknown reason probably flooded it -got it home via tow truck -this morning starts up a dream, get to the end of my road and the fuse goes -replace the fuse with spare one and every other fuse just to get back around the block

    What could be causing all this? bad earth somewhere? Short in the ignition circuit? the car is too good looking and the other ugly cars have sabotaged it?

    Answers on a postcard to the above address,

    It seemed to me that the fuses were going on the overrun, slowing down for a corner or changing gear, but that could be coincidence,

    rule out the basics

    1....correct fuse installed
    2....check items in that fused circuit for any obvious shorts, poor wiring, modified wiring (alarms?) etc.

    After alot of research it looks like ignition needs a 25a or 30a
    the last owner must have replaced it with the wrong one,
    hopefully this is an easy fix,
