If I import a car from the UK which was registered after 01/01/2008 will the car be then able to be taxed on its Co2 output emmissions? Or does this only apply to cars registered after 01/07/2008.

AFAIK VRT is now calculated by Co2 output for all cars irregardless of age, is this still the case? Basically I am looking at a low co2 Diesel in the UK and might go for it if I thought it would qualify for the co2 lower rate Motor tax.

If the car is going on an 08 plate, it will be taxed on emissions. And yes vrt on all imports is co2 based.
What are the emissions of the car?

Up to first registration of June 2008 you can choose the lower rate of the motor tax whether that be on emissions or cc.

Thanks I thought they had made some changes in the budget as this was how I thought it worked alright!

Great thanks, I still haven't replaced my car and was maybe thinking of a 1.9 or 1.6 VW Jetta Diesel with the DSG Autobox which can be got in a 139g/Co2 version or 125g respectively, brilliant car on Diesel and drove one in Australia last year and travelled almost 1,200kms on a full tank of Diesel (which was around €0.97 a litre there in our money) and good to go too the DSG box was lovely I thought.
