Hello, I was driving a 1.0L VW Polo 6n2, but the cold winter froze the anti-freeze and eventually ceased the engine. So after having no car for the last 4 months, I've now got a 1.4 Golf, Its nothing fancy and its standard but I am a student, so cant be throwing money around right now.

    Here it is anyway.

So what mods would you recommend, bearing in mind I'm on a student budget.

Keep it well maintained and maybe look for some genuine VAG upgrades.

If your on a budget don't start buying cheap wheels or other similar mods as you'll just ruin it IMO.

    agreed.

when i had my *cough* k12 micra *cough* a few years back it was a very boring bottom spec model and i wanted to liven it up and rather than go down the ****e accessories route i found a scrappy with a top spec model local to me and week on week kept going down and buying bits off it. factory alloys, half leather seats, trip computer, multi function steering wheel, factory tinted headlights, spoiler, electric mirrors etc, basically converted my bottom spec ****ter into a top spec for a few hundred quid and it looked the part, i was well pleased at the time.

worst thing you could do with that golf is start adding gti or r32 bits, or halfords alloys or that, making it something its not.

a tasteful set of oem wheels, maybe a double din head unit, just generally keep it polished and waxed and enjoy it for what it is.

    Is it 1.4 turbo 170hp?

Just maintain it well and maybe alloys yeah but not too bling-bling nor too big so it looks like tractor without lowered springs.

Needs alloys. If you want to keep it relatively standard have a look on donedeal for VW alloys.

I would imagine if it was it'd come with alloys as standard surely.

I suppose, you cuoldn't go far wrong with a nice set of 17" OEM replicas (not Audis FFS) some Hella foglights, colour code the bottom half of the rear bumper, rubbing strips and door handles.

alloys and coilovers from alloy-wheels.ie = job done

getting GTI headlights also transforms the from of the cars look giving it a more aggresive look.

subtle changes give a nice look......less is more with VAG cars
