Movies from Hard Drive to PS3

    Hi

I recently got as a present a hard drive with about 15 movies saved on it. The movies play fine when I connect it to my laptop but when I connect harddrive to my PS3 its not showing up. I read that the harddrive may need to be formatted to FAT32 but am not technically minded and not sure how to do this - or if i can do it without losing the movies on my hard drive.

Any help would be really appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

Before formatting, save the movies onto your laptop/a USB or whatever you may have... then format the drive. Afterwards, create a "PS3" folder with a "VIDEO" subfolder on the hard drive and then put the movies in "VIDEO" as the PS3 requires correctly named folders before it recognises/plays anything

Could also try the folders before you format, just in case it might work (probably won't) but it can't hurt to try

No need to set up folders or anything, just hit triangle and everything comes up.

Just google FAT32Formatter and it'll do the job, be careful you don't accidentily format your laptop's hd. :pac: Formatting it will wipe it so back the stuff up first.

When you connect the hard drive close any windows that pop up and then go into My Computer or Computer and click on the hard drive so you're viewing it folder-wise instead of through media players and crap. Should be able to click and drag them into a folder onto your computer then.

just make sure the folder structure is right...

    VIDEO
    film1.avi
    film2.avi

    PICTURE
    picture1.jpg
    picture2.jpg

    MUSIC
    song1.mp3
    song2.mp3

(note the capitalisation of the folder name)

then when it's connected you have to to press (triangle) and select "display all"

very easy to forget that step as if you don't press triangle well it'll seem as if there's nothing on the hard driver which may result in you formatting your HD several times before realising what your supposed to do :o:o

Again, no need to bother with that folder structure once you hit triangle.

Agreed, this is always said here and is only needed for updating system software.

    Triangle is your friend.

Guys the Triangle thing is ALWAYS mentioned in these sort of posts. Can you just let him do it the proper way so he doesn't have to jump through hoops to play his media. You shouldn't have to press anything to view your media. If he does it the way it was first described, he will get this.

So creating new folders is simpler than pressing a single button? Also I quite like to have folders the way I want them as the PS3 isn't the only thing I use.
