We are moving abroad for 2 years (work transfer) and renting out the house to friends. I called the ESB about the situation and explained when we were moving. They told me to ring the day we were leaving with a meter reading and now contact address and that would be it. They told me the contact centre was open Monday to Saturday 8am to 8pm.

As we are leaving early (7am flight) we agreed to call on Friday evening with our meter reading.

I just called. Customer service is closed. I assume its because of Good Friday (what service company closes in Goof Friday ? Its not even a bank holiday !!)

I am flying out tomorrow at 7:30am to Singapore with a stopover in Heathrow. As its a 1850 number I cannot even cannot even call from Heathrow.

How am I supposed to close my account ?????

I suggest you PM one of the esb reps here with all the info listed here:> http://www.esb.ie/esbcustomersupply/residential/manage-your-account/moving-out.jsp
    Closing your account

    Contact us with:

    * Your name and account number
    * The date you will be moving out
    * The final meter reading (How to read your meter)
    * Your forwarding address
    * The new occupant's name and phone number (or the landlord, solicitor or estate agent's name and number).

You can submit the reading online also:> http://www.esb.ie/esbcustomersupply/residential/manage-your-account/adjust-a-reading.jsp#form

    Hi knipex,

I'm very sorry I will not be able to provide the assistance you need this evening. All I can suggest for now is the customer care number from abroad is 00353 1 852 9534

There is also our email address

If you were to perhaps send an email this evening requesting a call? (I appreciate you will be out of the country by the time the mail is read).

    Regards,
    Una

Would it not be possible to get your friends to make the call?

The new customer can give the details, no problem

ffs It is a Bank Holiday it's just not a Public Holiday.

Relax. It's no big deal!

You can do it all on-line anyway from anywhere. Just log on to ESB.IE and enter the details. EASY!
