Why aren't the top speeds of vehicles limited by law?

Most vehicles can travel much faster than a countries upper most speed limit? This makes no sense. What is the point in allowing morons to break the speed limit in order to drive at maximum speed i.e. joyriders and the like?

Unless such a limitation was location dependent, it wouldn't do much good. Limited vehicles to 130kph or the like wouldn't stop a joyrider going through a housing estate at 80kph.

Car doing 90kph is being overtaken when limiter kicks in at 100kph.
Car attempting overtaking is hung out to dry & hits oncoming traffic.

I forgot to mention, cop cars would have no speed limiters.

The limiter should be set at the same as the countries speed limit. Therefore your scenario would not happen.

So what would happen if you wanted to travel around Europe in your car? Or import a car?

Obviously, cause you know, human's don't take risks.

Stupid idea, conceived of a mind which thinks speed is the cause of accidents.

I don't why someone would have to go above 120kph (top speed limit in ROI) in Europe. A limiter should be added to all imported cars.

Suprisingly, you're not the first person to come up with this ridiculous idea on boards. There's about a dozen threads going back years in the Motors forum. No harm to search them out to see just how wrong you are, and how accidents would actually increase if limiters were fitted to vehicles.

What, you think speed is not a cause of any accidents?

Worztron. You haven't got a clue (to put it mildly). No point in even getting into a discussion about it
