A lad not too far from me is having trouble with rabbits. Now ive been shooting them with the .22 with a week or two and seem to have thinned them out considerably. Got near 70 the first night i was out, problem is now that the remaining are wary of us so id say a few ferrets would do the job nicely.

So what im asking is do any of ye lads have ferrets and fancy a day out tomorrow? Im in the north cork area! (short notice i know sorry)

if you dont get anyone, change tactics. They get used to be shot at certain times. For instance, you lamp them regularly, they'l start to venture out during the day, and vice versa. Try an early mornin, or evening. Nice weather for the evening bunny's.

Took your advice on that one anyway, headed out this morning at 7 with the rifle and managed to get another few of them! Still lots of them there though. The farm is planted with barely and there destroying the place.

Luckily enough i got a call from one of the lads in the club last night who said his cousin is calling on today with the ferrets, that should quieten them! :)

Most lads won't use ferrets while bunnies are breeding

Ferrets are nore inclined to kill young bunnies and lie up ?

yep truth..had my new doe out last week and sent her down a small burrow i taught was vacant for months..heard a bit of squeeling for a few mins then silence.45 mins later no sign of cali.i dont use ferret finders or anything but ended up getting a length of a hazel tree and poked the ferret out of the hole.that taught me a lesson or 2

So what time of year do ye usually use ferrets or is it just a case of giving it a break for awhile around spring time?

just as a matter of interest- what did you do with 70 carcasses? i usually take a few for the pot and mayby bait a fox with a few but 70!! that would make a lot of furry caps.

Any time i come into an excess of bunnies i gut them and throw them into the deep freeze. Once i have an adequate amount of them i bring them up to fota island wild life park, they use them as feeding for various animals which means they dont go to waste.. I also keep a supply of them for the dogs which i boil in a large pot, its a nice source of good food for the springers.. I also make a mean curry and casarole...:D
