Qn on moving boiler, cylinder to outside garage

I have just purchased a house that was built circa 2004 and has never been lived in. The house has an in-house garage with a bedroom situated above the garage - hollowcore floor in between. The oil boiler, large cylinder, pump and water tank are all situated in the garage (its a water pressurised system). The boiler is a non compliant external boiler. I plan to renovate the garage, turn it into a study and large utility room and build a separate garage situated about 5 meters from the house - i intend to build the garage to a house spec in terms of insulation. I initially considered moving the boiler, cylinder,Water tank out to the garage, now im wondering if the heat loss associated with that move together with the increased length will do more harm than good, perhaps i should just make the study smaller and facilitate room for the boiler and cylinder, perhaps just move the water tank. Anybody got any thoughts, advice?

    and then

Get a specialist to find the boiler (smiley).

Check the yellow pages for a heating engineer, he/she would be able to advise on the min. standard of floor insulation and fire safety issues.

When u have a proper floor and insulated ceiling in the existing garage what head room will you have?

Lots of work with moving as u will need to bring the pipe work back into garage as I assume all the pipes start from there.

Yes there will be heat loss with the heating at 5m, not so much an insulation question but you will be heating 10m of water in the pipes that will go cold when u stop the heating, similar issues with hot water unless u put in a circulation loop. I would leave as is

What about the study in new garage: 52" flat screen/sky sports/fridge/beers/ the lads:)

Carlow is correct here however he neglects to mention, to his eternal shame, the superleague pool table.
room should be built so no smaller cues needed;)

thanks for that, yes I have always intended to get a professional in to advise and do whatever we decide on, however Im finding it difficult to get true impartial advice in order to decide on what to do in the first place -we are also considering solar panels.
The prospect of the ahem! "Study" is certainly tempting.
I guess the primary reason i had for moving the stuff out to an external garage was my worry about having an internal oil boiler directly below the kids bedroom. Cause for concern or not?

Not sure what you mean by non compliant boiler, if you mean non condensing dont worry oil boilers are pretty efficient if set up properly. If you intend fitting solar then panel siting will be a consideraton to your overall system. A solar cylinder in the bedroom of the garage and the boiler in the garage should be ok and sound`s like the cheapest option but make sure the manufacturer is happy that the boiler can be sited indoor`s.

Hollow core roof/ceiling as mentioned in the first post is fire rated the garage so no worries there, just dont bore any holes in it
U can get room sealed boiler so all air in and exhaust out

Yeah, by non compliant i mean it is an outdoor boiler in a garage which is apart of the house, so i need either replace the boiler or situate the boiler outside. I suspect i'll have to invest in one of those condenser boilers.

You need to be more specific here please.

If the boiler is inside in a garage which is fire-rated-separated from the house then there is no problem.

garages are designed to be fire rated for a fire in car which is more likely than with a boiler.

To be clear I am not saying fire proof, just fire resistant long enough to let u out of the house: see Part B herehttp://www.environ.ie/en/TGD/

What do you mean by an outdoor boiler?

Maybe CatIsoSio Sky means a boiler without chimney (outside boiler) placed in a car port ?
An outside boiler (those without chimney) in a closed room (garage) would be a dangerous thing.
    Be more precise please.
