LOL that could be true but tbh I'm pretty sick of people assuming someone is a bandit if they bring in a big score in my expierence most bandits don't go for big handicap cuts they mind their handicap.

I joined my first club last year and 23 as a starting handicap, I played in over 25 competitions and only got cut once by .4 but got a lot of .1's back so ended up on 23.6 when I moved to my current club.

My current club is tricky but the medal's are off the Whites compared to the Blue's in last club, I have been practicing every second evening and finally got a round together but it was the easy VPar off the yellow's and had +11 so lost 4 shots came 8th in the medal the following week with a 71 and lost another shot.

So I have lost 5 shots and with all the practice hopefully loose a few more I want to win the competition and I certainly no bandit, any bandit would have stopped at +6 or +7 instead of still going!

fair play to ya but maybe you'll understand my frustration when you get down to my current hcp of 5,you shot 11up,that's great but i would need to shoot 7 under to beat that score,we should be in totally different comps as i can't compete with that score, banditry is alive and well more than ever, just look at the scores in the captain's etc this year........f***in joke imo
ps....sorry for opening up that can again

When you say heavyballs you should be in different comp as have to shoot lights out to compete its fair point.
But that most improved comp would kind of be different comp as you would be in your own cat.Even if someone comes from 18 to say 10,they will play in cat3 but will be off current handicap they get down to.So they should find it hard as should hopefully be at something like proper handicap.
There is obviously an overall winner but nice to have chance to win your own cat. Also last year you might have thought someone in high teens might win overall but infact winner was from cat1,so handicaps must have been just about right.
Being cat1 is hard in week to week comps, really just best gross is all you have to aim for.
Thats the joys of it ha

But every once in while everyone has a round of a lifetime. I had one at my local par 3 course lately when i got a 57 (3 over par), never even came close to that before. It was simply on of those days where everything went right!

I hate to see somebody shoot 47pts in a competition as much as the next person.
But at least their handicap will be getting slashed. So they will be less likely to shoot a
    ridiculous score like that again.

    Spot on !
Some people seem to have a different definition of what a bandit is or just fire that word out without knowing the person.
Joined a new place the other week and shot 39 pts off 14 in a Open on a Friday, then Sunday morning the handicap secetary starts calling me a bandit on the tee box without even knowing me or how much practice i put in breaking my balls to try and get cut. By Sunday night i will have played 5 times this week.
So i said to him i play in that open fairly often and i know 42+ points wins each week(seems to be case in all competitions anyway), if i was a bandit i would of stalled on 36 points, not return card or not sign it to get disqualified to keep handicap.
Hardly gonna fork out €15+ here there and everywhere and not try my best to compete and get cut.
Was delighted in getting cut .6 to 13.5 and hopefully progress in getting cut more.

Then ya have idiots who think your a bandit because you can hit a great drive, great irons etc but ya fall apart around the greens but they think because you can strike a good ball your a bandit ( their own definition of a bandit)

Couldn't agree more Derra, I hit a fairly decent drive and everyone I have played with always says I will be cut soon if I can drive like that never mind the other 85 or so shots I hit in a round.

Dont be so bitter bout the fact that H/C will obviously move when higher handicappers play well..
FOCUS on beating the scratch golfer at your club or plus golfer instead of slating golfers who are working on improving their game...

    Spot on goodgolfer.
It's hard to see 45 46 or 47 points week in week out,but these lads are getting cut accordingly and will reach point where shooting to handicap becomes norm most weeks.

The higher handicaps will come down the most with practice and effort mainly due to the point .3 or .2 for each shot.
Cat 1 is really all about best gross and thats just way it is.

Would anyone know what was needed to get on the list of category 2 last week? What cut would have been needed in the week?
