I know this is cheesy and the mods will probably lock this thread, but with all the doom and gloom Riverdance really was something unique to Ireland and 'Irishness' and something to be proud of. The world loved it and as a performance it was a world beater.

The country might be ****ed but we're still capable of producing brilliance.

I must have been only about 6 or 7 when I saw that but I remember clearly being blown away by it, and slightly hypnotized or something watching it.
I also love the music in it.
Don't care how uncool it makes me, I still think that was a brilliant performance!:)

    Please dont blame riverdance.

We need a young sexy man that can do some jigs, surrounded by young, fit women wearing sexy dresses to pull this cnut of a place out from a recession

I remember seeing it live on the Eurovision. It was a fairly spectacular performance for it's time. It then went on to be the monster that is "The Tinker Flately Show", but taken as a stand alone song/ performance, there's not much that can be said against it.

The one thing that struck me at the time though, was - why the hell didn't we enter that as our Eurovision song that year? We'd have strolled home with the prize.
