Anybody used the burner 2.0 irons?

If so what are they like?

I use the burner 09's, and love them. I had a look at the Burner 2.0s a few months ago and they look like an angry version of the 09's. I love the look of them, and if I hadn't bought a set of clubs last year I would have bought them.

I played with a guy who had them during the week so I hit a few shots with them, I don't like the look or feel of them as I am more used to bladed clubs, however I was surprised at how forgiving they were, the ball went straight, was easy to get up in the air, and the marketing of them being the longest irons ever is probably true, the ball flies off the face like a rocket, they carry a massive distance, at the very least one club longer than what I use, probably more like 2 clubs difference, on a golf simulator in the golf store I hit the demo 6 iron 2 days ago, the readings were consistent with each other, and was more like a 4 iron distance from a regular set. The extra length won't be of interest to many players, but for game improvers they seemed like a good set. They are 2 degrees stronger than a regular set, which hits the ball even further and I can't see any advantage of that as it will only leave greater loft difference between your lob/sand wedge and the TM pitching wedge, but I am told you can order them with the loft increased by the 2 degrees if you want, which would make sense. I would be happy to play with them, you probably get used to their look when you hit good shots with them.

No, steel shafts, my mates set were with a regular flex and I hit them well, the 6 iron I hit in the store was with a stiff flex, which would suit me, I hit the ball a bit longer than average distance. I don't think you would need or want graphite shafts on these irons, they really hit the ball a long way with the steel shafts, I personally don't like graphite on the irons but I am pretty sure they had a graphite 6 iron for demo, probably your nearest golf store will have a variety of shafts to try on the demo version. I also hit a Ping i15, and g15 demo 7 iron which both seemed like good game improvement sets, don't go as far as the Burners, but if the extra distance with irons isn't the issue the Pings would be well worth a try also, I much prefered the i15 but the g15s seemed ok too, I tried a few shots with the g15s with a friend who has a set on the range some weeks back, the 4 iron was very easy to hit off the mats, went long and straight and would be a fine game improvement club, but personally I prefered the look and feel of the i15, having said that I would be happy to play with the g15's, he also had the g15 hybrid and 3 wood which both went very long and straight, very easy clubs to use. I actually ordered a g15 3 wood which is why I was at the golf store, went there to demo a few 3 woods and I was surprised to find this one went longest and straightest for me, with the serrano stiff shaft. The g15 7 iron was very easy to hit too, long but not quite as freakishly long as the Burners. Definitely worth your consideration if its game improvement sets you are after.

I would also suggest you at least try a demo of the Mizuno MP-53 which are alot easier to hit than you might expect, also have a large forgiving sweetspot, and a more elegant club which looks more confidence inspiring (to me at least) at address and also has more feel than the Pings or Burners, which will give you a bit more feedback when hitting shots, you may not consider them game improvement sets but you might be surprised, certainly worth a few shots before you buy anything.
Anyway all modern clubs seem to be good these days so whatever you choose you can't go too far wrong.

    Ratzy

I have just purchased a set recently $i to SW (including an A wedge) - just coming from a starter set.

I found it quite difficult to get the same contact with the burner 2.0 set as I was with the more forgiving starter set, however when I do they are very impressive. The more I practice with them the better they seem. They are unusual is that each club appears to be slightly differ, other than of the angle of course. Taylormade's marketing suggests that each club is specifically designed - this may or may not be true, but do they have a different feel.

I'm not using the 4i or 5i much so you can have a loan if you want to experiment. Alternatively I'm in McGuirks in Kinsealy frequently you can have a bash at the full set if you want. Given the supposed design nature of these clubs it is important you get a sense of each club individually. Don't rely on taking out a test 6i and assuming the rest to be same.
