suspension spring snapped

I made this thread a few weeks back about my car.

The car is a peugeot 206.

Anyway, I got it insured on Tuesday, started driving it, (prob driven about 150km in it since) the left wheel felt dodgy and was clicking a lot, I put it down to it being the bushings / bearings or something like that as I'd had that problem with it before.

Cut to 10 minutes ago when I went to move the car and it was scraping and undrivable, I reversed it back up the drive (very painfully as it sounded awful), got out and looked at it and I see that the suspension spring has snapped and has scraped the tyre down about a cm from the cut spring too.

Luckily enough it happened in the driveway and not on the road while I was driving normally.

Any idea how much this is going to cost to fix? Is it a major problem etc etc?

Not a major problem, you need a new coil spring. Shouldn't take a good mechanic to long to change it. Not sure of cost though.

Girlfriends mother just had her mechanic over in the house a few minutes ago to drop back her car (he was fixing a few dents in it). He said it shouldn't be a problem to fix up, should only take him a couple of hours, once he can get a part for it.

More money down the drain...it's a good job I won the lotto :(

One of mine on me old mercedes snapped. Go to GSF (German,Swedish,French), they do replica bits for cars made in those countries. The oner for the merc cost abt €50. Yours should be a little less than that. Mechanic will fit it approx 30 mins.

I atually need it fixed asap so he's going to get one from another peugeot 206 and fix it up for me as soon as he gets one.

I have a wedding in Dublin I have to get to next week and I'm in Sligo now but I live in Monaghan so there's a bit of driving to do over the next week and I've not got time to wait for parts to be delivered and don't have a car to get to a breakers yard myself.

it definitely needs a tyre, you could fall into the mess it's created in the front tyre. I have a full size spare tyre in the boot of the car that i'll put on and get new tyres when I get back home as they're cheaper there.
