Lan 2 28th May

Ok, the second lan event will take place in dublin 28th May.

most likely the same venue, depending on numbers. they have another place we can use, and the manager said it has a lot more room for people to bring their own computers etc.

gonna aim for the same time frame, 10pm - 10am and of course, beers before hand.

this time, im gonna stay in dublin for the day so i can have more than 1 or 2 :p

Ill organise more tournaments, and ill do much better seeding this time, and it wont take as long.

once again, depending on numbers once the cover charge is paid, the rest will go into a prize pool for the winner/winners of the tournaments.

Think it might be a good idea to include 1 or 2 other games, and maybe try get a tournament going in them so help attract a bigger crowd?

anyway, any suggestions please throw them here on thread!

Also, considering we FILLED the venue last time with ONLY SC2 we might be REALLY tight for space if we include other games?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,824 ✭✭✭RoyalMarine

sinister, im hoping a good few people will bring their own computers this time.
there was tons of space upstairs with 32" full HD tv's available to connect a laptop or pc to.
this will give us a LOT more space to use, and there were also ps3's setup up there.

however, if we get much bigger numbers, then there is another venue owned by the same crowd we could go to.

I'm up for it and I'm also not opposed to bringing my PC to the venue if there are others travelling from further afield who'll want to use one of the machines provided by the venue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,812 ✭✭✭IRL_Sinister

I like the machines at the venue though :(

    hey,

sounds good, i ll check my flights and get back to you.

But I wont bring my computer (sorry).

I think SC2 only is fine tbh, then sc2 players can have fun on other games too (for instance when you get eliminated).

    Anyways, see you there

contrary to popular belief leaving cert requires work who'da thought it..Its kinda a big deal for most people and is important if not for your whole life then the next few years anyways :P Yanyways off topic funsies. Still wish i could go even with my meagre 14 wins ;D

I was considering going but apparently you've scheduled this event to co-incide with Cork/Tipp in Thurles. Such petulance.

Sorry, can't make it this time. I have decided to emigrate to Stockholm since the last lan.

the leaving cert is probably the most unimportant thing you are ever going to do in your life. it means less than nothing.

Im dying to play AOE2 on lan again!!
What other games would you play?

    How many people are excepted?
How much is the entry fee?
    Where is the venue?

You do realise this is the Starcraft 2 forum?
I think they were joking about AOE2.

I don't have the other details.

We primarily play SC2, the PCs at the event have every other game under the sun that can be played online and are generally played throughout the night as people get knocked out, etc.

Last time we had ~40 people.

The entrance fee, last time, was 10€ for a 12 hour gaming session (-setup time) and you can bring all your own food and drink. It was amongst the best 10€ I spent this entire year. NOTE: There will, probably, be a double elimination bracket and the top 3 will get cash prizes.

The venue is on lower Talbot Street, it's called the XGC (Extreme Gaming Centre), it's literally right behind a pub.

    You're welcome.

indeed, the entrance fee is 10 euro. it will most likely be the same again, and this time we will have more money for prizes etc.

There are 40 ish computers available for use there, but they dont play sc2 on the best spec... however, there is tons and tons of space for you to bring your own, and you dont need to bring a monitor! there are 32" full hd tv's available for you to use with your pc/laptop.

we have space for 150+ people if needed!
80 computers are already there for us to use, and space for 70 or so to bring their own.

Also, yeah AOE2 if you have it, great! id love a game! however, this is a starcraft2 LAN so the primary focus is on that.. but for 12 hours, it does get tiresome! last time, a good few of us played counter strike and had a laugh with that.

There will be a lot more organised this time, 1v1 tournament being the priority, but we will also have a 2v2 tournament and some FFA games arranged.

    RM!

I m very sorry to announce I can no longer attend this LAN. I have a job interview in south France on friday may 27th and that will prevent me from reaching the airport in time for a flight to Dublin. I tried to make the company move the interview but they wouldnt accept :(

    Have fun!

Baal, it's going to be a long summer! We can always have another LAN! Best of luck with the interview!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 295 ✭✭Winger_PL

I'm interested in attending, is there any website for signing up or is it just a matter of showing up and paying at the entrance?
I'm nowhere near being a very good SC2 player, hopefully this is a fun event open for everyone rather than a closed venue for high level players only?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 5,824 ✭✭✭RoyalMarine

it is indeed a fun event, and there are lots of 2v2 3v3 and 4v4 matches played at the lan for fun. there is no real registration, just adding your name here kinda lets me know your interested. ill be sending everyone a PM tomorrow with full details of the lan.
