Eventually took the plunge and acquired a 2005 BMW 320i E90 yesterday. Absolutely love the car and the drive but attempting to pair my mobile phone's bluetooth with the car has not been succesful.

I have followed the various stages included in the user manual and also tried a couple of different methods which I saw on Youtube but so far to no avail. I cannot get past the 'tel' display from the menu.

Has anyone else had this difficulty and if so how did you pair the devices?

what type of phone do you have? i had trouble pairing my nokia with a bluetooth kit. i update the bluetooth software on my phone and that sorted the problem.

I think I have the same mobile as below although mine is in different colours and about two years old.

How did you pair the devices?

When I enter the menu and select telephone and then hold the button underneath the telephone icon in the display it does not advise that it is searching for devices, nor can my phone locate the BMW.

i have a merc integrated kit. I press a button on the bluetooth device in the car to activate it. then on my phone i just search for new devices and it finds MB PhoneSystem. I then have to enter a 4 digit PIN code, but this step is only required when initially pairing the device.

can you go onto sonyericsson.com and upgrade the bluetooth software on your phone? even if it is a new phone, it can have older versions of blutooth software installed.

does the bmw manual give any listing of compatible phones?

The process with the Merc is the same as the BMW i.e. initially pairing, pin entering etc. My problem is that the car wont turn on to pairing mode nor can the phone find the car's bluetooth.

I will have a google to see if the phone is compatible but I thought almost all bluetooth phones could be paired.

It would seem to be a problem with the car's bluetooth unfortunately.

Shouldn't matter what type of phone you've got you should be getting further than the tel message on the radio display.... Your phone may allow contacts transfer or not, but you seem to have a car problem !
