Aldi are selling a gas BBQ for + lava rocks and a protective cover all for under €90. A great deal IMO

    http://aldi.ie/ie/html/offers/special_buys3_16555.htm

I was looking at a similar BBQ in woodies and it was over €130.00

I just picked one up and they are flying off the shelf so get your skates on.

Dont bother with the lava rock, this model is not suitable.
says so on the inbox leaflet. No lava rock mesh included even though its mentioned in assembly instructions.

above links to a earlier recall of this product code, helpline says its a completley different model even though same part number, plu number exc.

    make your own mind up!!

If you still have one of these would they still be obligated to take it back and issue a refund now ?

spent an hour putting this together and discovered the grid for the lava rock was missing.

Went back to Aldi and no grids in the ones in the stores either.
Somone else had returned one laos for same reason

Manager said he would take it back no problem so it's going back tomorrow.

Is there anything else that could be used as a lavarock mesh? Or anything else that could be used instead of lava rocks?

I really don't want to have to take it apart just after building it.

Fcuk sake, I just paid €63 for a propane gas cylinder to go with this BBQ!!

Is a missing lavarock mesh critical or can it be used without one?

I dont think it can be used without the lava rock grid

    Hi Guys
i did not buy the one in Aldi but argos have the same or near similar on sale for 62 and €5 voucher back so 57 euro total.
i set it up and realised no lave needed and taught f**K

hat to go to homebase for a different regulater as i had bottle of gas in shed .
anyway asked the guy whats the difference as all the gas ones they had had no mesh for lava and they were 500€ plus.
he said themetal part going above the flames do the same job as the lave
as the food drips down it melts and gives off the bbq flavour so no need for lave
just had 2 burgers and jumbo sausages tasty
just need tolearn how not to cremate them :)
so no need to send back it will work fine.

Wouldn't recommend parts of a shopping trolley for cooking over. Trolleys are usually galvanised, which contains lead and zinc.

^ this and they're frequently covered in plastic or paint, nothing like a bit of solvent abuse and heavy metal poisoning to round out a nice saturday afternoon sipping beer and eating burgers :P

Stupid question but I don't get it, do you not use coals with this bbq at all or is it just that the flame doesnt heat them directly?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 198 ✭✭mosesgun

I'd love an answer to this too. Do I need coals on the Aldi BBQ or not. I heard the same thing - that the steel plate over the flames does the same job as the coals used to do. I'm not convinced though. Also on the Aldi brochure it shows a bag of Coals next to the ad for the BBQ which would lead you to believe that you need them.

hows everyone getting on with this BBQ? If I modify it so I can use lava rock coals, Am i better off removing the metal thing covering the flame?

Im think you need coals for a proper bbq.
