I have read about a few names over the years who went through the Cork pirate scene.
    * RTE's John Creedon started with Cork pirates - I think ERI was one of them.
*RTE Radio One Sports' John Kenny (and former 2FM deejay) did a stint with Cork's South Coast between various Dublin pirates.
*TV3's Trevor Welch was involved with the Cork pirate scene in the '80s - don't know which ones.
*TV3's Mark Cagney started in the '70s on Cork pirate radio.
*Liam Quigley was with Cork '80s pirates (formerly with Century Radio, Dublin's 98FM, Dublin's Lite FM and very briefly with 4FM).
*I believe 96FM's Neil Prendiville was on Cork pirate stations.

I would hazard a guess that Corkman Robert Walshe would have been involved with that pirate scene. He is a former presenter with Cork's 103FM and 96FM. I first heard him on Dublin's Lite FM. Robert was also with Dublin's Country 106.8 as presenter and PD. Then, he went on to be the first general manager (as well as presenting) for north-west station Ocean FM. He went into management for a couple of stations up north after that.

Was Henry Condon (Atlantic 252, Red FM) a former Cork pirate deejay?

People who knew and listened to the Cork pirate stations of the '70s and '80s must have loads more to add, as this is just stuff that I read.

Following on from the previous post
Henry Condon was Alan Reed on many Cork pirates starting with CBC I think. Neil Prenderville asJim Lockhart was on many stations starting with CBC he was on CCLR and South Coast and probably many more. Mark Cagney was on CBC in the very early days as Mark Anthony and then moved to ABC. The same ABC that a young John Creedon started off as Eric Hansen he later became John Balke on ERI. 96FM breakfast jock Nick Ricahrds was on South Coast and WBEN. 96FMs PJ Coogan was on CCLR cant remember what name he used. Geoff Harris who has been on WLR for many years also did lunchtime on CBC from Patricks Hill in 77/78

2 other ex pirates work on Life FM 93.1 in Cork. Mike O'Sullivan (as Mike Kenny) and John Patrick were both on CCLR

More as I think of them

I have vague memories of an NCLR,North Cork Local Radio.Any one with any information of who was involved with that.I have a feeling that the c.e.o. of Radio Kerry,Paul Byrne was there at one stage???

Rob Allen on (aka Rob Richards) Radio City, CCLR, Radio Caroline Cork, WBEN and South Coast is a regular DJ on Cork 96FM nowadays.

Michael Cahill on Centre Radio and Sunshine (Cork) has been on 2FM for many years now.

Paul Byrne was on South Coast (Mk II) and Radio Caroline Cork now a TV3 News Cork reporter.

Gerry O Connor of Centre and Sunshine went on to form INN

Sorry for updating such an old thread , I was deleting old subscriptions when I came across it , but I read this book recently on the above subject and really enjoyed it , lots of info about the whole scene and written by one of the original pirates ,

I did a search and didn't find it mentioned already on boards .

Know this is an old one but just found it now: One of the original founders of radio Caroline Cork is still involved with it to this day. The station started broadcasting in 1981.

Noel Welch who was stated his radio career on CBC as Noel Evans in the late 70s is currently presenting a sports programme on Cork City Community Radio Saturdays 11am

Noel is Trevor's brother, worked for the Examiner and Echo for many years.

Echo/Examiner photographer Eddie O'Hare was a pirate too, went by the name of Ed Harris.
