NCT emissions failure 1999 Toyota Altezza HELP.

Hi guys looking for some help here, the altezza has failed the NCT with a reading of .48 at high revs (3,100rpm), on low revs it was passing.

I used diptene for the retest but it failed again with a reading of .43, can anyone recommend something cheap that will get it down to under .3, it had passed on everything else, now I have to redo the test.

    Thanks

Were you stuck in slow moving traffic prior to the test or did you leave the car idling in the NCT car park prior to the test, these things may contribute to the emissions being higher when tested.

From reading on here if your cat is gone you may have a problem that doesn't have a workaround. I think you can get a feel for it's integrity by giving it a whack - if you hear noises inside then it's likely broken down.
May be able to get one from a scrapper though.

edit: - No expert - open to correction etc :)

does it have a big fcuk off exhaust on it ?

yeh it has a stainless steel straight through racing exhaust and in order to change the cat i'd have to replace half the exhaust system which is costly or cut it off and weld a new cat on which i don't want to do.It has passed 2 nct's already so hoping for a cheap fix before i have to buy a new exhaust.
