Small drip - Opel Astra 05

    Guys,

The missus dropped the car in for a service about a week ago, today I noticed a small patch of oil in the drive when she left earlier, so when she came back I popped the bonnet and had a look inside and found the source of the drip.

The car is a 2005, 1.4 Opel Astra

Does anyone know what this part here is?

It removed ( think its a oil pressure switch )

When I pulled it out ( didn't take much effort at all...) a small green washer/spring came out with it this looks like a seal when I put them back in again and switched on the engine I could see it starting to slightly popout again just enough so the oil would start dripping again.

Common enough problem on Opels I think.

It is the oil light switch. It just threads out and thread the new one in. There may be an 'o'ring on the old one, check it is also on the new one if there is.

When the new switch is fitted discard the rubber seal for the wiring plug, sometimes it seals so well that when the pressure switch fails the oil is pumped through the loom to the ecu, causing failure.

Extremely common problem on the opel xe engines, the switch is very cheap from opel and a 24mm(I think from memory) will change it in 2 mins.
