Question about Free fees and Grant

Hi , hope you can help me with this.

    I completed a level 7 degree in 2007.
I am now hoping to start an undergraduate course in September, which will be level 8.

Because of my first degree, does this mean I am not eligible for free fees again?

The course I hope to start will be the BEd in either St Pats / Marino - does anyone have a rough idea of how much full fees are?

Finally, based on that I am currently employed only part time, I did not received the grant last time, and I will be a mature student, would I be entitled to the grant?

    How much is the grant?

    Thanks for any help!

If you have a level 7 Ordinary Degree, you can apply for a grant if you start a level 8 course. Being mature doesn't make any difference to you if you live with your parents. If you're living away from your parents from October 2010, it looks like you're ok for applying as a mature student provided you are three years out of college. You will have to provide them with proof (official letters, ESB bill, utility bill dated Oct 2010 or prior). If you're on Social Welfare for the past year, you will have to go on BTEA and you will only get your fees paid. Redg. fee this will be €2000.
Hope this is a help to u.

Hi, was wondering if anyone can help me out here. I am planning on repeating my first year in college. I want to start fresh in September but dont know if I will be able to get the grant. My attendance was terrible and I didn't sit exams because of my circumstances. Would appreciate anyone's input here, thanks in advance.

Hi there. My friend was in the same position last year. Your grant will not cover your registation fee for the same year again since they paid it for you the previous year (unless you can provide them with medical certs as to why you did not attend college for the entire year). You will also have to pay the tuition fees for the year as you are not entitled to free fees when you need to repeat a year. He did however receive the money he was entitled to from his grant the previous year (which he did not get the previous year as he did not attend college) which helped him pay for the fees.

Although I could be wrong with some information so you should really ask the finance office/student services in your college to be sure as everyones situation may be different.

    Hope that helped!

as long as your still progressing on, and NOT repeating the year, then yes, you will still receive the grant for the following year. Make sure you inform the county council that your progressing on, and they will probably want evidence of this, and the letter from the college with your exam results on it will suffice.
