Problem with Citroen Xsara 2002

    Hi All,

I have a 2002 citroen xsara 1.4 petrol. Lately it is going through a lot more petrol than usual and i have worked it out to about 19 miles to the gallon. I have brought it to the garage and they tell me that it is not leaking petrol or burning it ( it was tested and the emissions are similar to that of a brand new car). It is a great car other than that and had only done 78,000 miles, does any one know what might be the problem?

    Many thanks

    Is it down on power?
How did you calculate your mpg?

No change in power that I can notice, I filled the car and clocked it and drove until it was at half way (about 160 miles) and worked it out that way.

You need to fill it up to the neck, reset odometer to zero, drive say 100mls, topup again, record milage and record how many litres it took to topup.

    Try this... http://www.eforecourt.com/calc_mpg.htm

If your still getting 19mpg after this test then your car needs to be checked
out for binding brakes, slipping clutch etc.
