    hey all,

May I ask of a situation I in.....I recently(2 weeks ago) have had 2 full weeks training wit a company and now I have been told that they do not want to keep me and they willl NOT pay for the training days.

I have not signed a contract with them, and am wondering is it illegal for them not to pay me, they said it is company policy that they do not pay for training.

I mean I was in-house, dealing with customers, doing sales, cashing till etc basically doing work that is helping the company make profit, and now they decide Im not suitable and let me go but without paying me, is this against Irish welfare and employment law???

    Thank you in advance

not sure about that but I found this

Q: I recently went for an informal interview and was asked to complete a trial work day. On completion of this, I was asked to complete another two trial days as the job was between myself and another person. Payment was not spoken about. I was then told that the job was mine if the manager could get training hours for me. After hearing nothing for a few days, I called and eventually I was told training hours could not be obtained, so there was no position for me. What are my entitlements?
A: As your job offer was made conditional on the manager getting training hours and this condition could not be fulfilled, then the job offer doesn’t stand.

The recruitment process is innovative but in the current recessionary times some people seeking employment offer their services for a limited period free of charge so that each part gets a fuller understanding of the role and the candidates skills.

If you had wished to be paid for the trial period, you would need to have had a specific agreement with the employer in this case.
