Bright hair colours?

I've been trying to find a nice, rich red for my hair. I tried a number of different brands and shades, all of which faded to a dull colour after a few washes. Where can I find a nice, bright, permanent colour?

I was told by my hairdresser that reds and purples fade easily after a couple of washes. I didn't want to have to keep dying mine to keep the colour as I'm destroying the bath as it is :pac: But she told me to pour a little bit of the dye into my shampoo and wash (with gloves) your hair with it. She also told me to stop washing my hair as much as regularly as I was.

Adding it to the shampoo stains the hair just enough to keep the colour looking vibrant!

Red is notorious for fading after the first few washes. I used Schwarzkopf Live XXL dye and kept the red tint bright with some shampoo specifically formulated for red-heads, I used the John Frieda one.

+1 to what Lorrrrraine said. I use the same dye and the same red-tinted shampoo. I've had my hair red for about 3 months now. The fading doesn't bother me too much as it fades to an orangey colour similar to Hayley from Paramore's colour but I'd have to cover my roots every 3-4 weeks.

    hi,

I use the schwarzkopf live color XXL in number 43 red passion and in between dyes i use Revlon nutri color creme in 600 fire red. I bought it in a salon services and it was around 18euro, it lasts for ages and really helps to brighten your red, prevent fade and makes it really shiny. I couldn't get a link up but if you Google it you will get more info, hope this helps!

When I had my hair bright red, I had to colourball it at least once a week. It just wont stay vibrant, simple as.

Colour ball isnt that expensive either. Just takes a bit of effort

Get some professional colour from salon supplies/ebay/online:

    I use 1) Loreal Majirouge 6.6
    2) Loreal Majicontrast mix 6.0 (Rouge)

Depending on how bright you want the red to be, mix in more of the majicontrast mix with 30 vol developer.

Usually I'd use 1/2 tube of each mixed with 60ml developer and it comes out quite bright and stays bright for a long time. My hair is just past shoulder length.

You don't need to be a hairdresser, once your hair is already some shade of red its pretty hard to mess it up, just do your roots and make sure you evenly get it through the rest of your hair, i use a comb. Always throw a plastic bag on my head and blast it with the hairdryer for 10 mins aswell as i find it lifts the colour better.

Theres a couple of products that are good in between dyes that will brighten your hair up that are easily/cheaply available.

There's a good Youtube tutorial by loopylady11BTS called HOW TO GET CRAZY RED HAIR.... sorry can't post a link as they've blocked youtube in work! This is good.

I was close to getting rid of my red hair around christmas as it was so high maintenance was literally in the salon once every 3-4 weeks as the colour goes orangey/rusty but now every few weeks i throw in the colour myself! It's great, i always have really vibrant reddy/pinkish hair that people always stop me and ask me about......and i love saying, dyed it myself!

Hope this helps! I'm just used the last of my home stock of red..... next stop ombre/balayage!! :D

P.S - I am not a hair dresser but got advice from one and some articles/you tube..... its seems to be a common dilemma if you're not rich/time rich enough to sit in salons maintaining your red hair. Honestly i top up my hair now once every 3-4 weeks at home and it takes an hour max! And costs 15-20 euro max as youll get 2 gos out of 1 x tube each of the loreal colours and 1 x bottle of developer.

Where did you buy it? I went red recently, I get the colour done in the salon and I am told to expect 6 weeks between colours - if this would help that would be great!

You can get the colourball from here: http://www.ukhairdressers.com/store/details.asp?ID=Revnutricolorcreme&fgg=3838

Also, I'd recommend getting yourself some Crazy Colour dye in Fire or Vermillion Red, and using that one every few weeks too to top up the colour. Leave it in for as long as possible.
