    I'd say...

PLAYERS' PLAYER OF THE YEAR -

    Isa Nacewa (Leinster)

UNSUNG HERO OF THE YEAR -

    Richard Strauss (Leinster)

YOUNG PLAYER OF THE YEAR -

    Rhys Ruddock (Leinster)

    Would have to go for:

POTY: Nacewa (sheer consistency and excellence)
UHOTY: Strauss (head and shoulders above the other nominees)
YPOTY: Spence (has to be in my opinion, Ruddock and Murray have had a fraction of the high profile game time he has as well as being very impressive)
    TOTY: Gilroy, electric.

I think Earls is very fortunate to be nominated. In all fairness, he was having quite a mediocre season at best up until mid-January. There are several players I would have looked at before him. Howlett probably would have got my nod or Muller in Ulster. Shambolic that Coughlan is not in the unsung hero category.

Would agree with most of the above.
Nacewa should walk that category, he's been pure class this year, even more so than SOB.
Strauss will walk the second category definitely (Du Preez and Faloon?!)
Spence has played at a much higher level then Ruddock and Murray this year (why Ruddock ahead of Ryan?).
The only place I disagree is try of the year, which I think is Fionn Carrs.

I won't lie, I can't remember Carr's try. Don't have YT in here either so can't go searching for it! Gilroy wins a two horse race for me but I reserve the right to change my mind later! :D

Strange list. I would be of the opinion Dom Ryan has been better than Ruddock this year. Earls is very questionable, he's had an OK season but only started to play to near his potential against England.

    -O'Brien
    -Strauss
    -Spence
    -Nacewa

    Carr:

Is it from this tie, or the one in the sportsground? Can't seem to find teh other match. If it is this one....which of his tries is it? :P

EDIT: Must be this one since he didn't score in the opposing fixture.

    Gilroy:

    Nacewa:

Carr's try for me too. Great bit of counter-attacking.

Is it fair to call Strauss an unsung hero? I sing his praises everytime the man gets anywhere near the ball! (Almost as much as SOB).

In so far as one player being awarded for the Try of the Season Nacewa must be the winner.
I would call the try Carr finished the best try but should be awarded to every player involved! (presuming were talking about the try on 1:40)
And for Gilroys' try, more credit should be given to Humphreys rather than Gilroy!

    Overall Try of the Season
    1. Carr
    2. Nacewa
    3. Gilroy

    Individual Try of the Season
    1. Nacewa
    2. Carr
    3. Gilroy

Wrong video. The try was in the match away to the Blues. Actually now that I've seen them both again I'd have Gilroy's as the best individual try.

edit: it says Ulster v Blues but I presume this is the try they mean.

I think so. He started the season as a nobody really outside of the Leinster support and isn't in contention for international honours. To put it in perspective, John Hayes, arguably the most sung about man in Munster rugby, was nominated in 2009. He had about 90+ caps, a Lions tour and had just won a Grand Slam. It all depends on the perspective of those doing the nominating. I think someone like Isaac Boss would have deserved a mention for unsung hero.

PPOTY - Isa Nacewa. No question about that one.

YPOTY - Nevin Spence. Murray has been brilliant but he's only been involved consistently for Munster since March.

    TOTY - Craig Gilroy.

Interesting* metaphysical question; if someone is nominated as Unsung Hero, does that make him "sung" and therefore ineligible for the award?

      *not really interesting

      Carr

On another note, why is Ruddock so highly rated in some quarters? On the pitch Dom Ryan seems a better player. Versatility of being able to play no.8 perhaps?

SOB is being hailed as world class now. I think that sums up the season he has had!

      Strauss has been very consistant.

Spence has played all season and Murray has just played a few matches.

I don't care who scored the best try.

You have to remember that Gilroy scored that try on his Ulster DEBUT, as a 19 year old. The kid has been remarkable and if the World Cup were next year I think he'd find himself on the plane. If he were from Leinster or Munster people on here would be hailing him as the second coming..

Looks like a younger Fionn Carr. Hopefully he makes it, but I think its going to be harder and harder for smaller players to compete at the highest level. I'm not saying it'll stop him, but its certainly a disadvantage.

No Connacht man in any of the player categories. No surprise there.

Willie Faloon ? The 4th best openide in the country this season behind Johnny Concrete, Wallace and Jennings (In no particular order) Jennings and Concrete are pretty unsung.

Wian Du Preez ? Was he not part of the same creaking Munster scrum. Is not half the player he was in his 1st stint.

Keith Earls ? Is this not the same lad who spent the whole season up until the 6 nations playing rubbish at 13

Pretty fair analysis, but in fairness, who from Connacht should be nominated?

Gilroy is about 6ft or maybe even taller I think.

Kinda thinking that, lot of very good performers, Jamie Hagan, Mike McCarthy, Andrew Browne and a few more but no real standout.

If I was to pick one I'd go for Johnny O'Connor, he's been sensational since he came back from injury at the end of September. Many people have written him off/forgotten about him but he's still playing fanatstic rugby for Connacht. I'd throw him in the Unsung Hero category, he deserves it over Du Preez and Faloon anyway.

Delighted with the awards, especially for Isa.

He's been outstanding for Leinster for years!

Well done all, nominees and 'winners'.
