Got a callback today about a driving instructor job. I was asked about 3 questions over the Telphone and was told Id have an Assessment and be charged 115 euro to basically drive a car around the block a few times. I Dont like the sound of it seems to be a way of getting money outta people if you ask me.

    Hi,
My OH used to be a driving instructor when he was getting started he had to pay about €200 for training before being given the job, this was back before the new regulations came in, then he had to pay for the RSA 3 part test to be registered for two years, cost about 300e i think, the work eventullay dried up so he went onto something else, might be different now with the new minimum lesson rules.
Maybe ring around a few other driving schools and see what their policy is, I know from the 2 schools he worked with one he had to pay and one he didn't. best of luck.

Yea but that €115 is just to have someone sit in the passenger seat and assess my driving its not training and its alot of money for what it is to be fair my fear is they charge you through the nose for training and then give you rubbish hours !!!

Actually that does seem a bit rich, I think I may have mis-read your previous post, I thought it might be training.
Alls I know from my OH doing the job that it was too unpredictable in the end, some weeks were great over the summer he was earning over €450 but then other weeks it could be as low as €70. He paid alot of money to do the RSA exam/ assessment and then didn't get the hours to make it worthwhile.
Also the 2nd school he worked for had a bit a hierarchy going on, where lads who had been there longer had their books filled first before the other newer lads got given lessons and I know it really frustrated my other half.
That was only one school though they may not all be the same.

OP , your caution is justified - they could well take your money and then tell you that you are not up to scratch and recommend training for which you will shell out more.
I would suggest you post your question in the Learner Driver sub-forum of the main Motoring forum - should be several people there who know more about this subject.

Hi just reading your posts would this place be based in Finglas the reason Im asking is that I know someone who was promised a job out of this crowd after pay nearly 6K for their ADI. He went for interview and was told there was only one job him and another person who travelled from the country was very taken aback by this. All along when they were paying out hundreds of euro for lessons they were told it will be worth it as their is a good job at the end of it. i'm disgusted to see that they are still advertising on the website and in national papers taking money off people and promising them a job at the end of it. Anyone else got a similar story................

I too passed my ADI, last March with this particular driving school out in Finglas. I can only presume we are talking about <snip>. After my initial assessment(€111) I was told I wasn't a bad driver but had a few bad habits and they were recruiting at the moment and they would be more than willing to train me for my ADI exams (at a price of course). That price was around €220 per 4 hour lesson. They didn't let you take the lessons in smaller blocks. It was a complete career change and I new it would cost a few bob so I gave it a go. Little did I know how expensive it would be. my RSA cost €950 as I failed stage 2 and 3 so had to repeat. I dont know exactly how much their training cost but I would say it was up around €4000, if not more.
They were on the phone every week trying to get me to book lessons (money). I couldn't use their car to do an test without first doing a mock test (more money), after the mock test their recommendation was at least another 4 hours (even more money). Anyway, left my old job so that I could start straight after I passed stage 3. Went for an interview with the same company that have spent the last year training me 3 weeks ago and I still waiting to find out either way.

Moral of the story: BE VERY CAREFUL BEFORE YOU AGREE TO HAND LOTS OF YOUR HARD EARNED CASH TO BE TRAINED BY THESE.

This same story was a big feature on Joe Duffy a couple of months ago, with a lot of people ringing in with the same story about the job being promised at the end of the assessment (followed by expensive training).
One particular caller I remember had advanced driving qualifications for almost every vehicle including buses and HGV. He paid for his assessment and they told him he would have to do a few of their training courses to update, so he did with the promise of a job in mind. But even as good and as qualified as he was, they would say ".. you were going too fast on that section" then when he did it again "...no, you were going too slow on that section" he eventually figured that it was all a scam to sell driving lessons and that the promise of work was just a ruse to get more money from people desperate to get working again.
Best avoided by the sounds of it.

It's a real pity there's nothing we can do about this, it's scary to think that more people are being scammed by these bullies every day!!
