Should be mega wide on the 5d, have a good check to see if its sharp.

Looks like a nice lens and a great focal lenght, I would be inclined to stick with a standard wide angle like a 17-40L unless I could check the lens in person. Just a bit worried about not seeing the Sigma

I had a chance to use this lens for couple of months. It is fantastic UWA, click here.

Alternatively you could take into consideration Sigma 15-30, Tokina 11-16 or Tokina 16-28. Also it is possible to use Sigma 10-20 on full frame, but you'll have some vignetting on wider end. Question is - do you really need zoom UWA?
If not then maybe it's worth to consider Canon 14mm or fisheye.

i was going to go for the 17-40 f/4 L until i saw that this sigma 12-24 would work on FF. i'm wondering would it be too wide though.. ?
all i know is that i'd like wider than 24mm on my 5d2. :)
not looking for fisheye, just something wide.

12-24 is designed for full frame bodies :)
If you don't need fast lens then 12-24 might be suitable for you.
Best way to figure out how do you feel with such focal length is by practice, so rent such lens and play with it. :)
If you need faster (and reliable) lens then think about Canon 16-35mm (or older 17-35mm) instead of 17-40.

don't need fast. i had a 10-20mm that i used on my old nikon d80 (crop)
24mm is the widest available right now on my 5d2. i do have the ef-s 18-55mm for my 600d, but i'd prefer to get something wider for the 5d2.

16-35 would be awesome. but waaaaay out of my price range. it'd take me long enough as it is to save for the 17-40!

thanks for your input, appreciated! :)
