replacing a gainsborough Emerald 2

Hoping someone can help

I have a gainsborough Emerald 2 shower that has given up on me so im looking for suggestions on a replacement.

either 1 that the wiring and pipes are the same so i can install it myself or even a replacement gainsborough Emerald 2 shower

The emerald 2 is a pumped electric shower. It has bottom right connections from memory

A t90 or Mira elite is the closest. Unless you contact gainns and ask them there agents.

Protim abrasives use to be. Then a lad in castleknock but I dont know now.##

Have the same issue you had last year - an emerald 2 that needs replacing.

Lads.. Same problem.. Looking to replace an Emerald 11. The T90 is plumbed from the opposite side.. what did you guys go with??

i think the mira jump will fit any eletric shower with right hand connections

The mira jump is a mains fed shower, and not suitable for connections to the cold tank in the attic.

I went with a mira too. I got a plumber in to do it so I'm afraid I have no idea what he did but it was hassle-free!

But reading the documents that come with it, it recommends the 10mm cabling.

How do I know if my cabling is suitable ? is there anyway I can find out what kW my old shower was ? Has anyone seen a product spec for this online, such as the PDF ?

Also do i need to fit a cistern fed shower ? or can I use any type of shower ?

The Gainnsborough is a pumped electric shower. Simular to the T90 and the mira elite.

What your looking at is a T80 A mains fed shower. If you change to this the pipework will have to be changed as well.

Thanks Joey - I guess the question is, why do most of Dublin have a tank fed showers when a mains fed is cheaper and easier to install (i.e new tank needed)

Also is thier any easy way to determine the kW of the old shower ? As i'm worried I would buy a shower that is rated 9.5kW that needs a higher power cable than the one that already exists.

Because T80's are not guaranteed to work in all places. Outside dublin and galway they are very very poor oh and just in case you say they should not be selling them its on the instructions to check the pressure

Additionally if you decide to get an attic conversion you can only get one of 2 showers and one is a T80

The Gainnsborough was an 8.5kw and 9.5kw but the majority of showers sold were 8.5kw. I know because i imported them

To be honest If in doubt get an expert to fit it because 8.5kw of power and water are not a good combination if fitted wrong.

Because with mains fed showers can be problematic if the water pressure is low or if someone is in the shower and another person turns on the cold tap at the kitchen sink, this can starve the supply to the shower. At least with a tank in the attic the shower has a dedicated water supply to it
