I was looking at a 2008 Chevrolet Aveo 1.2 in a garage and salesman said it was 156 euro to tax it . Just now I was looking at a 2007 one and tax was 286 or 288. Is this correct? I am supposed to be driving quite a distance tomorrow to view it. What cars are 156 tax?

In 2008 the means of tax classification was changed. Pre 08 they are taxed on engine cc. Post 2008 they are taxed on emissions rating.

Off topic, but why on earth would you want to buy a chevrolet aveo?

Car I have at the moment is 2 litre and tax and running costs are getting too much.It is my dream car but its time to get realistic. The Aveo is not a bad looking small car.If i can't have my dream car I don't care what I get.....but just not a hatchback!

There are alot of cars from 2008 that are in tax band B (€156). Most of them imo would be way better than the Aveo. A Kia Rio or Hyundai Accent of similar vintage comes to mind.

    That could be you :-(

Get a proper car, not some half baked 90s rehash
