    Hey all

Your gonna LAUGH at me when I ask this but I haven't flown in years - before the new laws came out.

I'm flying to spain next month and I've got my confirmation from Ryanair regarding the size allowed of baggage into the cabin.

My question is - if you buy anything in the shops in the airport - can you put this in your cabin baggage?? Was thinking about the way home more than going - buying alcohol as presents for home - are you able to do this now?? I thought there was a limit of 100mls - so you can hardly buy a bottle of smirnoff then??

The limit of 100mls counts when you are going through security. If you are travelling with just hand luggage this means that you cannot buy any drink until you pass through the security checks.

If you buy drink on the way out (in what was duty free) you will be unable to bring it home in your hand luggage.

if u buy something in the airport then it must fit into your 1 bag carry-on allowance.

I got stung with this in december when i was coming back from london, had bought a pair of runners in the airport and had to completely re-jig the back at the boarding gate to get it all in one

everything has to fit in one bag and be under the 10kgs allowance. In most airports they weigh your carry on and if it over you have to pay to get it checked in.

I fly a lot from Malaga because I’m now working in Gibraltar. In Malaga airport there is a big advertisement saying something along the lines of ‘did you know you can take one bag of airport shopping on the plane in addition to your cabin baggage allowance?’

Then of course there was an asterisk saying ‘consult your airline’ so I assumed that meant, everyone except ryanair. But then I was in the queue and an Irish couple ahead of me had their cabin bags and a yellow airport shopping bag each. They were talking to another couple and saying that the airport shops had kicked up a fuss because of reduced sales so the airlines agreed to this. I was still thinking ‘yeah, but what about that asterisk’ but then when it came to boarding (and the staff were doing their usual checks of bags) they went through without anybody blinking.

However, I haven’t actually tried it myself, and I doubt you would find Ryanair advertising it anywhere assuming it is true

Thats grand - I just wanted to know it was OK to buy this stuff in the airport! I didn't know the 100mls rule was just for passing through Security. I thought it was for on the plane itself.
