Just wondering if anyone can explain what the deal with the google maps scale is? I've got directions in the attached pic that say the distance is 1.6km but the scale gives the impression that it's much further than this?

regardless of scale google maps should be directing you away from kindlestown, not towards it

also use bellevue road as a shorter route.

Thought Google had mapped my fish there.

What do you think it is judging by the scale?

The scale is in the bottom-left corner of the map.

    Looks reasonably accurate,

Why not go up Bellevue rd? I assume your walking if distance is a concern?

Are you looking at it up really close? Because when I click on that picture it just looks like a few inches to me.

Look reasonable to me for the amount you have zoomed in and also by the scale measure in the bottom left of the picture

Father Ted does a tutorial that may help.

I know, i'm asking if it looks correct to you based on a route distance of 1.6 km

Without getting out a piece of string i'd say the route is about 6km based on the scale -

    1. Is it saying the entire visible area of the screen from right to left is 1k

    or

    2. Is it saying the distance from the start to the end of the scale line is 1k

    or

    3. Something else

I'm not sure if people get what i'm asking

The scale is marked at 200 M
The first part of the directions is 700 Metres
3.5 times the scale that looks about right from me using my fingers as a measure
Go back out two zoom levels to see the scale as 1 KM

There is no way that the distance of the black scale line x 1.7 is equal to the blue line (that is 1.7km), that is what i'm saying, I know I have be reading something wrong though

    1700/200 = 8.5
Would you say it is 8.5 times longer?

Ahh, poxy metric. Had 1000 ft = 1km in my head there, that'd be the problem :D

Yes. The numbers on the scale.

    Edit: He got it!

Using the Ruler in the Tools menu of Google Earth, the distance between the two points is just over 1.3 km. (As the crow flies).

So yep, travelling between the two by road would work out at around 1.6 km judging by the map.

    Hehe, blame the metric system!

I thought you were thinking the scale was the black vertical line for a sec!
