Just looking some advice on a decent set of clubs for a beginner. I used to play golf when I was younger but have not played for about 10 years. Just was to take it up as a hobby now and dont want to break the bank buying something really dear. Any suggestions?

Don't let me pull much weight in your decision, because I'm very much the proverbial beginner. My balls prefer gliding into sandtraps and water hazards. I think Wilson probably makes a great set of beginner clubs and at a good price.

My set is well-worn from a charity shop. I love them, not because of their brand, but because of their history (a tag on the bag from an older female amateur golfer).

    Wilson do make good clubs.
With the change to euros, and price of postage on top, you might be able to pick up a better set than that over here, second hand, for the same price.

Failing that, I'm sure these clubs could be pretty good. Haven't heard of the model so I'm guessing.

I have a set of Wilson Di7's which I am looking to sell - 4 to SW

They are a good beginners set and are 1 inch lengthened (Pitching wedge was lost and has been repleced by a Taylormade PW blade)

When I first started I used a set of those Nike Slingshots. They're definitely a beginner iron but well made. Have a big ould cavity in the back, gives ya great confidence with the longer irons. They should be very reasonable too, especially if you get a set from a year or two ago.

that's a good price m.j.w for those Wilson Di7s....considering they're in good condition of course....
make sure they're not too long for you though....

They are - 3.5 years old. Probably 80 rounds of golf in that time

Nice set of clubs - Easy to hit, just don't suit me as my swing has changed quite a bit over the past 18 months

Unless your about 6'4" don't get the longer clubs
Defo not as a beginner......in my opinion
    I've had longer clubs I'm 6'1"

Ring a few shops and enquire of any 2nd hand sets you'd be surprised what's available

Picked up a full set of 2004 Callaway Big Bertha's for €99 a few weeks ago.
This was in Cash Converters in Cork. Definitely bargains around at the moment.
