wondering the same tbh. Got a 2nd round interview (or 3rd if you count the one from the agency).
Just wondering what could be different

It depends on the company - procedures vary.

Who was the first round interview with? If it was with the line manager, then it might be with the next level up. In a lot of companies, line/middle management don't have any direct hiring authority. They can make the recommendations, but it's his or her manager who makes the call.

Was HR there the first time? Then maybe they're in the next one with more senior management.

I can only assume that the first round was quite technical, and it was for some sort of technical support role.

I'm only going on the little bits of info that you've given us, so it's hard to say.

If it's for a technical support role, and the sysadmin was there to check that you know what you're talking about from a technical point of view, then I'd imagine that the IT manager would want to:

Confirm that you have the technical knowledge
See how you'll fit into the team
See how you'd deal with customers
Talk about your work experience - what sort of procedures you had in your last company, what projects, things you worked on, what your role was exactly etc.
    Talk about your career plans*

Again though, I can only guess based on what you've said so far.

    * Do NOT treat the "where do you want to be in x years time" as a bullshìt HR question. It's not. It's valid and it's good for a manager to know what direction someone wants to go in, especially as IT has so many varied career paths.

    Usually, but not always:

1st round: tech screening. help weed out liars and bullsh1t*rs.

2nd Round: Much more difficult tech screening, this time to push the limits of your skills, not to see what you do know, but to see what you dont know. Usually with potential peers.

3rd Round: Competency test. See how you deal with situations, get a feel for your general attitude and type of person you are. may contain some more technical questions.

If there are any more interviews that that, they will be a mix of previous interview formats, but most likely wtih high level managment, dept head's etc.
