I'm looking for a pretty large ball joint puller/separator for the UCA on the LS400. Needs to have about 32mm wide jaw to fit past the boot without damaging it.

I already have this from Halfords: -
    400-694406?$prod$

But I've had to modify it just to work on the 8er. It's not suitable for my current needs.

Can't seem to find anything suitable.

Preferably this (as used by Carl on lexls.com): -

Anyone know where I can find such a tool? I'm not a fan of beating the crap out of it with a hammer.

    Ta,

Assuming the problem is that the Halfords tool is too small...

I had the same problem with my 5er. Short of BMW's own splitter * I didn't find anything locally. What you're after is a ball joint splitter for a light goods vehicle. Like the Halfords one but bigger. I ordered one from a tool web site in the UK.

    * €200+, month lead time and were reluctant to sell because they had a hard time getting them for themselves.

    Ta,

Yes, the Jaw is too small on the Halfords Laser product.

Jebus. Might as well go for new wishbones or invest in an air hammer.

You can get a forked splitter, or when my Halfords one doesnt work, thread a nut onto the top of the ball joint, smack it with a hammer a few times and the taper goes, then lever the arm off the joint.

    Just got this: -

From sealeypower.com I purchased stuff from them before (nice tap and die set). Good quality. Delivery is a little slow at 5-7 days but I'm not too bothered.

30mm Jaw - could work with a 5er too. They have a good range. I might also get the 34mm one for the cruiser.

    Arrived a while back. Very well constructed. That's a 30mm and 34mm I have.

Happy to loan out free to regular posters on a collect/return basis :)
