Hi folks, i was wondering if someone could help me. I am a PGCE student studying in St Marys Teacher College in Belfast and I am studing IME (Irish Medium Education in primary). I am a fluent Irish speaker but i also hold a degree in Accounts & Business Studies and trained as a chartered accountant. I am due to qualify in June and I am starting to look about work obviously. I was wondering what the job situation is like especially in around Dublin for someone like me.

Any help would be great. Thanks in advance.

Despite being a fluent Irish speaker and doing the IME, are you sure you'll fulfil the Irish language requirements of being a teacher registered with the Teaching Council? My parents were both fluent Irish speakers, trained in Belfast, but weren't qualified to teach at primary school level as they had no Irish language qualification. This was before the days of the Teaching Council.

Cé gur Gaeilgeoir tú agus go bhfuil an IME ar siúl agat, an bhfuil tú cinnte go mbeidh na riachtanais Ghaeilge á gcomhlíonadh agat le go mbeidh tú cláraithe leis an gComhairle Múinteoireachta? Ba Ghaeilgeoirí iad mo bheirt tuismitheoirí, cuireadh oiliúint orthu i mBéal Feirste, ach ní raibh siad cáilithe le múineadh ag leibhéal na bunscoile de thairbhe nach raibh cáilíocht Ghaeilge acu. Tharla sé seo sula raibh an Chomhairle Múinteoireachta ann.

Miclin Muc, go raibh maith agat don freagair sin. Shil mé go mbeidh mé cáilithe mar mhuinteoir Gaeilge mar gheall ar an chúrsa sin ach nil mé ro-cinnte. Nil ceim agam sa Ghaeilge so tá seans ann nacn mbeidh mé cláraithe leis An Chomhairle mar sin de. Tá ceist eile agam duit, cén áit a mbíonn postanna nua le feiceáil? Sna 6 coundae, bíonn na postanna uilig san Irish News. An ndéanann páipéir an deiscirt an rud ceanna?

If you post in a language other than English then you have to translate what you have written.

Can't see anything about that in the charter.

OP, I think you'll find an answer to one of your questions here.

Not many jobs going around Dublin, lots of trouble with schools hiring retired teachers or unqualified teachers as subs. If you train in the UK you're not able to immediately teach down South, you'll only be registered in the North with experience of their curriculum so you need to do your probation period down here. Its really hard to get the 50 week block you need to register. I've heard that there is some kind of (unpaid) Fás course you can do that lets you get the necessary experience (although you may be better off without their help if recent news is anything to go by!)

As for Irish if you train in the UK you have to do an Irish exam (the SCGE), even if you're fluent. More info here http://www.education.ie/home/home.jsp?pcategory=10815&ecategory=31887&language=EN.

Hope this helps and best of luck
